haha chameleon vs crested gecko

Your going to get these negative sides when you post...sorry but it happens. I dont find it funny or cute...thats me but I'm not saying its harming or stressing.
These people think everything stresses just because of their natural behavior...Just don't share something like this because people know how to make you feel bad..
and yes I know...they are doing it for the good of your two animals..but guys its ok..one time??

If people didn't say anything against it the one time, then what's to stop it from happening again? Or from someone else reading it and thinking "Cool, I wanna try!" and end up with an eaten gecko?

No i just didnt go through with the idea of you saying it will happen again. Im not worried about the cham but i am about the gecko. You never know, maybe you look back for a split second thats only how long it will take her to launch her toung. Its not about the wild. In captivity you dont subject a baby cham to an adult just because it would maybe happen if it was in the wild?

I totally agree, MAYBE the gecko was scared and thats a big MAYBE. That gecko probably didn't even notice the chameleon! I bet the chameleon was just EXTRA excited for an exotic snack!(I would never feed a gecko to a cham) I think a lot of people on here are VERY VERY over protective in everything (not a bad thing) but sometimes it gets a little crazy, like this. I can understand your concern but I think sometimes it gets a little over the top. We shouldn't just bash someone because he is doing something wrong or "un-educated"(for lack of a better word) on the 110% proper way to do everything with chameleons. There should be a lot more constructive criticism and less shooting people down because you don't agree with what he/she is doing. Its is fine to disagree but you should at least point out flaws and corrections(in most cases) so they can learn something instead of seeing 10 posts Saying "Oh, thats horrible" or "I would never do that" and thats all...

Not trying to point any fingers or stir anything up just throwing in my 2 cents. Spend it how you like! :D Just trying to help out the little guy a little here. I know I have learned a lot from the forums here and I hope to teach it to many! I would love to see more teaching and helping and less feuds.

Dustin

I have to agree. There are a lot of NO NO NO NO NO's without any constructive opinions that get thrown around here.

To the OP. I see no huge deal being curious if your cham would try to eat something that is huge or hasnt seen. Obviously you saw what would happen and didnt let it. I dont see it any more harmful than showing two males each other from a safe distance to get them to fire up. I wouldnt do it all the time though and there are better ways to get your cham to stick its tongue out;)

I have stuck a baby panther in front of an adult before just to see if the adult would want to eat it. There was a cage between them of course but I was curious to see what the reaction was although I pretty much knew what was going to happen.

So there is another post you guys can bash:rolleyes:

I completely agree. If you are sure nothing bad will come out of the situation, then there is no reason not to satisfy a humans curiosity.

I still disagree with doing that, but you at least had a cage between them. The OP, on the other hand, had the gecko in front of an opened cham cage.

Its okay to say something but sitting there and strictly saying it is..just making the person feel bad...
He said the gecko and the cham is the same size...and you dont know if it was held up infront of him or outside the cage...so basically just say it nicely.....but if it was the cham outgrown the gecko then thats different.

Crested geckos can jump - FAR! And according to the first post, the cage was open. So same size or not, still not a good idea =/

Sometiems saying something harshly drives the point in faster :p

No it drives the point to irritation and two groups of I agree and I dont then arguing.. I over read the post and its first time..I doubt he will do it again because you guys are just so..negative in a way.

also..to me this was a minor stress situation compared to people breeding. Like some said..putting a male with a female or two chams together is more stressful...

They would probably learn a lesson from it. :p I have no other comment. It seems people are very protective on this site, which is not a bad thing. But, things can get out of hand.

personally, I believe if that female decided to launch her tongue either her tounge would rip off because she was not able to pull the gecko off the branch or if she did the female would have sunken her teeth into the gecko ( not exactly eating it but giving it a nasty bite)

Just like recent situations where the tongue has ripped off either because it missed or hit something it couldn't pull in...

:eek:I would be carerful. I had a panther that ate an adult anole. Their tounges can hold alot more weight than you would think and they chomp down hard enough to crush bone....

Also considering the crested is a pet you dont wnat it getting hurt and you also dont want your chameleon to get hurt either.

Thanks Cain!

lol alright guys. lets all put down the weapons. theres no need for it to be done again. like i said, it was all to see her cham's reaction. i know cresties jump far... very far. I HAVE ONE, but if you guys know. cresties are nocturnal. chams arent. my crestie was docile and very much too sleepy to notice anything, as far as the cham.it was a good distance away. i had my chameleon eyes on and were watching both. like i said it was a few seconds, and i would never do anything to harm an animal. you guys must think her tounge ball was out, no her mouth was just open a crack but in the position eyeing down prey. the only thing that made her mad was that she didnt get a snack out of it.

as far as it being known their tounges ripping off from missing its target or the target do big too pull in, give or take. im not saying it couldnt happen, but my opinion is being its size and overall body strength, if the body is weak everything else is. i cant find it now, but on youtube a while back i seen a vid where a cham tried eating a day gecko. too big of prey, he sniped it though but couldnt pull it in, struggled to get his tounge off of it. but no harm done. not saying its good at all though, but again, stronger animal (to me) is stronger everywhere else.

if they are the same size i dont think either would try to eat eachother lol. just sounds like a bad idea to eat something that is your size
