Gutloading locusts

Hi folks.

My Cham's have started to eat locusts lately after refusing crickets for the past month or two.

I need to start gutloading the locusts however they aren't eating my frozen gutload of blended fruit and veg.

I know they love to munch on leafy greens etc normally. But if there are any tips to get them munching on my gutload then this would be a huge advantage - I have a ton of it prepared in the freezer that would be a big shame to waste.

It consists of apple, orange, papaya, carrot, squash, sweet potato, seeds and kale.

Am I best taking a different approach? If so, what?

Thanks.

I got the same problems.......The best I can get my locusts to eat is dandelion and basil......they will eat a bit of nuts and seeds like walnuts, I have the same non-cricket problem as you with my male Veiled, but he's eaten a couple recently :). His reward of silkworms are in the post....I hope he likes them, but not too much.........

They feed on grasses and leaves. I feed mine rose for the most part. Romaine lettuce has been suggested to me. I've thought about growing wheat, but find it easier to use rose as staple, and add weedy plants like hollyhock, salvia, african marigold and cheese (mallow) weed to the mix.

maybe dipping the leaves in your gutload? some is better than none.

I maybe blance the leaves in a mixture with you guyload and part water.. See if it will infuse some of the guyload into the leafy greens that the hoppers will inturn eat.

just an idea.

Where do you get your locust from?

I gutload mine with apple, carrot and parsnip, but they really like Wild Rocket (sold in packets in the supermarket or you can buy seeds and grow your own). I used to grow wheat grass too, but it was hard to keep a plentiful enough supply on the go!
