just was wondering one of my baby oustalet's seems to have edema "swelling in the neck area". how should i go about resolving this issue and how can i tell whats causing it? is there anyway to better the situation? thanks.

I was in your shoes a couple of weeks ago. What is your supplement schedule? I completely stopped dusting my boy's food for 2 weeks and the swelling went away.

i supplement them with repti-cal but its not very much maybe like once a week? all my other babies are fine except the one male i have, and i switch there diet up alot, from baby hornworms to, fruit flies, crickets.

thing is tho nothing had ever happened til i supplemented them so maybe thats the cause? i have no clue at this point so ill have to consider taking him off it and see how he does.

I really don't know what the supplementation schedule of oustalets are, but I know you need to give them plain calcium, calcium with d3 , and a multivitamin. Not just reptivite. Hopefully someone can chime in

An edema is not only a swelling. An edema means: Fluids, which should stay in the vessels, have gone into tissue. So you need to assure whether the swelling of your chameleon is an edema or not. An edema can be pressed softly with the fingers and the mold of your finger formed inside the tissue should stay some minutes. If there's fluid inside a cave and not inside the tissue, the mold will not stay and you can feel fluids move between your fingers. If this is the case, you can suspect the swelling not to be an edema, but an abscess or similar. A sweeling could even contain blood, air... there are so many options.

I've never seen an edema caused by oversupplementation, but by kidney and heart insufficiencies. And some pregnant chameleons get gular edema as lots of other pregnant animals (and humans...), too. Most of those problems seem not to supply to your baby chameleon. So... first check what the swelling exactly might be. And then go on looking for reasons.
