Sudden edema

This seems to me to be unmistakably Edema. I had no idea this could suddenly appear. The swelling was not there earlier today. I’ve read Bill’s page on Edema. Could an Admin please advise if it is indeed edema and if I should go to the vet or should I discontinue his multi vitamin. UVI is 3 to 3.7. Calcium no D3 and no phosphorus with each feeding. Multi Vitamin is Repashy Calcium LoD 2 times a month

Anytime you’re in doubt about something, a vet is always the best/safest course of action. I wouldn’t stop supplements without veterinary approval. For sudden edema, I wouldn’t delay and would guess that labs would be helpful. If you need help finding a good vet, just ask.

The picture of the back of your Furcifer pardalis chameleons head looks to be fat. You have got to post pictures of your chameleons throat area to say whether your chameleon has got edema or not.

Thank you. I will post more pics today when he is awake. In the meantime, here are a couple I managed to get yesterday.

We need a side view of the throat to spot edema. I know they can be hard to photograph.

Thank you. My vet is not in today. I’ve left a message for them to call me. He’s due for his multi vitamin today so I’ll just hold off and not feed/supplement until after his appointment.

Yes, I noticed his casque was getting fatty last week and reduced his feeding, since Monday, to 1 or 2 feeders (depend on size) to every 3 days. But this bulge on the back of his neck just showed up Thursday and was not gradual.

ATM all I see is a very fat casque bulging into the neck. I will check back later for more pics. Edema rolls down hill so I would expect to see it under the neck or rarely along the bottom of the belly.

He is definitely ready for a slow and steady food reduction.

He’s on a food reduction now that started on Monday. I got a few pics this morning. However the bulging on the back of his neck, which is what I thought was edema, is gone! And the excessive casque fat has reduced to what it was before the incident with the bulging back of of neck. . He does not like the phone (or the solar meter) so one pic is with his gullet puffed and a couple are right after he settled a bit. Still trying to get a full body pic

At this point I’d just say he’s chonky. Sometimes their posture can make things look more or less prominent. Do scale back his feeding as you have planned. My strong suggestion is to do it slowly because drastic diets for obese animals can affect their health.

Thank you very much! I appreciate your response.
