Got stung by a wasp, ooch!

Bloody hurts! Taken my dog for a walk this morning, i get a sharp sting on the top of my foot so looked down and the wasp was just sitting there. My foot is stinging, red and starting to swell. Is that normal? I've never been stung in my life. (first time for everything i guess) my brother is allergic to them. Do you think i could be? There is a walk in clinic near me but i would feel really stupid going there for a wasp sting if im not allergic to them.

I think if you were allergic it would have swelled really fast and alot so i dont think i would worry too much if theres just minor swelling. Just put some ice on it to keep the swelling down, but if you are still worried that you may be allergic then its better to go to the walk in just in case even if you arent, better safe than sorry

put a baking soda paste on it to take the sting out. Are you starting to itch all over?

If it's been an over an hour and there's little if any new swelling you should be fine. Most people who are allergic will know it in the first 10 min. You might want to take an antihistamine (like benadryl) just in case.

Thanks for every1s help, i was just worried with my brother being allergic and never being stung before i didn't know if it was normal. The pain aint as bad now, im currently at work so will put some baking soda on when i get home. Thanks again

My mom is deathly allergic to wasps and I'm not the least bit. Guess its the luck of the draw sometimes.

Not itchy is a good thing. I've been stung many times and never had a reaction but one time a cowkiller (wingless wasp) got me on the leg and i had the first signs of anaphylactic shock, which was excruciating itching starting at my scalp and within minutes my whole body. Next was a numb and swelling tounge. I had to get an epi-pen and take a shot. That was 10 years ago and have avoided being stung ever since.

Some minor swelling is normal. If your foot becomes very swollen and itchy it could be a sign of an allergic reaction. If it was a serious attack (anaphylaxis), you would have known within minutes. Serious, life threatening allergies tend to become more severe with each exposure, so your first sting could result in minor swelling, the next sting could result in more severe swelling and other serious symptoms. Make yourself a doctors appointment--where tests can be performed that will indicate what you are allergic to (if anything). You have a bit of a family history with allergies, it would be a good idea to get tested. Better safe than sorry!
