Got my enclosure, LF panther Chams

Gotta still get a stand/substrate bin figured out, coordinate where everything’s going, and possibly foam some stuff, but I want to start browsing chameleons and possibly put a down payment soon…

Everything for me seems to point back to a panther being the best choice, although I’d be open to a parsonii cristifer as well I think.

I think I’d most like a panther that has nice resting colors, orange/red/yellow with blue all are pretty striking imo. It’s hard to find breeders that post anything, but flared up pics of their chams though(and I don’t blame them at all for that). Any suggestions??

Here’s my ybbb. He’s 2 and his best colors are sleeping. He doesn’t usually get upset and go all yellow, like breeder pics but he is still beautiful green most of the time.
Sleeping he’s banana man, awake he’s Popeye because he’s always been a strong little dude.
Not sure if this is helpful lol. I would choose the cristifer if you can find one, they are so cool looking and not so common. Don’t get me wrong I love my panthers but I also like unique 😉 ( why I have a carpet and parsons and scouting another species as we speak).

Yeah honestly I was hoping to find something that had the resting yellow, orange, or red, but I actually really like the green your guy shows. Very vibrant and contrasts well with the blue. Nice Cham!

I would definitely consider a cristifer, but I think it’s next to impossible to find them ATM?

I highly recommend Lee and Amanda. I’ve know Lee for about 15 years and he’s an awesome human being. His panthers are absolutely stunning.

Thanks Jan, will keep them in mind!

Out of curiosity how is your carpet and parsons personalities compared to the panther? Back when I had a yellow lip, he was pretty laid back, but not nearly as interactive as a panther. Strong feeding response though during summers!

My female carpet is sooo shy but brave. She hangs out up top and is very active in her enclosure. Doesn’t run when people enter the room. My parsons is gonna be 2 this fall and he is very chill. He gets a little stressed when we take him outside but once he’s out there he’s king of the mountain for about 2 minutes then sits down like a lump and sun bathes. He made me nervous this winter only eating about 1 bug every 3 days if I was lucky but stayed pretty active during brumation but soon as nice weather hit the appetite returned. Lol My panthers are most active. That guy Popeye he is a hunting machine boy, we gotta watch him. He tried take a hummingbird the other day. Goof ball. Hunts any and all and quick as can be.

I remember my parsons going after birds, never my panthers though lol. Also your parsons eats more than mine did in the winter, my guy wouldn’t touch food for weeks.

Kammerflage has some amazing babies that are showing real color at 3-4 months old. They are also very kind people. I also really like Framschams. If I was looking to buy one either of them would be my first stop to see what they have available.

Definitely have them on my list as well. My first 2 panthers were from kammerflage. Was very happy with them(almost 10 years ago now 🧐)

Another thing I had in mind is that I kinda like the mixed locales. See some funky patterns/colors and they seem to change a lot after each shed. Considering I don’t plan on breeding, is there any downside of getting a mixed(obviously given that I like the looks of him).

You are going to get the it is bad to blur the blood lines from people on this question. lol

Sounds like a smabava locale would be what you are looking for by your description. Now the resting color of the body is green the bars will be red/burgundy/black but the color contrast is beautiful and then when they bask or eat they show different mood colors. This juvenile is showing more of his resting colors in the first two photos the third would be of a juvenile fired up slightly

I had a feeling… Makes me wonder why though? How’s it different from like a mutt dog lol? Especially if one isn’t breeding and sending them out there with no info on lineage.

Sambavas always intrigued me, they have some of the best flare up colors of any imo. Some seem to be hit or miss with the resting colors, nice vibrant green on that guy in the pic though!
Resting colors should be pretty standard across the board between the sire and dams sire. We haven’t seen a great deal of variation other than the bar pattern on sambava can go many ways from a U to a W or even a Y or deep V bar. That is what drew us into sambava was the unique bar pattern. I am unaware of any panther chameleon phenotype that has a resting color of yellow. All that I am aware of is YBBB ambilobe that are green body at rest, Sambava that is green at rest, Diego Suarez that is green at rest and nosy Mitsio green at rest. But all fire a beautiful specific shade of yellow in different moods.

Tamatave would be an interesting locale if you can find them. They have an orange/red body that fires up a yellow reddish color. Andapa would be another hard to find locale but at rest are a rust green color that fires into a burnt yellow color. Very cool to see in person. Good luck on your search. We would all love to see what you end up deciding on.

Because it dilutes the blood lines... So you get person A that breeds a nosy be to a nosy boraha and they disclose the cross. Person B buys one of those babies and either tries to pass it off as a pure bred dam or sire then you have a cross with diluted blood line. Or you end up with Person C that breeds the cross baby with an ambanja... if they are honest or not about the actual blood lines who knows. etc etc. then you have the what if Madagascar closes out exports to the US? What if we can not get pure blood lines and we have tons of crosses. Then you get the why is it ok to breed for our amusement to have this specific look and is that even ethical. Same things happens with dogs, cats etc. I get all sides of the conversation though.

Great info and points! Forgot about Tamatave and wasn’t even aware of andapa!
