Gnats

I've had a little trouble with gnats lately. These little things live in my pothos and I see them sometimes flying around the cage. When I open the cage door, sometimes they fly in my face  They don't seem to hurt Yoshi or cause any noticeable stress, but they are really annoying and I want them gone. I've heard to dry out the plant completely, and I've tried this. I haven't watered it since who knows when. I find them dead on the cage floor by the thousands. I want them gone!!

Yeah they suck I had that problem with my cricket bin when I was putting the soil in the entire bin, and they are impossible to get rid of. I would bring the plant outside and hose it down, that will kill a lot of them I'm sure and maybe clean out Yoshi's enclosure to make sure you got them all. That is just my thought

I'll take the plant outside and let it dry out for a while... I'll see how the gnat population goes down. I'll rinse it if they don't go away, just because it's such a root mess to deal with and the last time I did that it nearly killed my pothos... Lol I don't have a green thumb.

Ewww, I HATE those things!! only thing I know is dump the plants dirt and start over with fresh dirt only with sand on top.
Tried all those organic pest controll things, some work for a few weeks, then they are back!!

Yeah it's a pain lol but it may be what you need to do for this, and believe me, me neither! Lol:D

Not sure what kind of soil you're using but I've heard from many people using the organic miracle grow soil that for some odd reason if you don't let the potting soil sit outside for a few days before using this will happen. I'm having the same problem as well right now and it's driving me insane!

Nah this was 99 cent organic soil from Wal*Mart. I'll let it sit out anyways, I tried it once and it worked for a while.

Hahah I've had a war with them for months, things that work for me:

I have a few fly traps stationed around, outside the cage to catch any leftovers

I change the plants soil every few months and this helps

The gnats are a big warning sign to root rot and bad drainage (at least in my case) so I'm trying out these and they help ( at lowes for like 2 bucks)

Also cider vinegar and vannila repel them

hmmmm not sure what else at the moment, if you need anymore help, feel free to pm me :)
