Glass Terrarium Parsons

Here's Rhino in his Glass Terrarium in Davis. Some here in the USA would call me crazy for keeping him in a glass terrarium in an apartment. However he has been doing this routine since I got him as a sub adult in 2008 and has not had any problems. Glass terrariums are normally seen used for Parsons in Europe and not seen often used for Parsons in the USA. He does prefer his giant cage in the greenhouse.

The framed top left corner document is his CITES paperwork followed by a picture of a Parsons from Arkive and a picture male F. pardalis Nosy Faly.

I'm going to put more plants in. However I have not got roommates and Rhino does not see much action in the room. However I raised him from a baby in something smaller in the same spot as the terrarium you see (he has never shown stress signs from that spot due to lack of plants or people) and he actually has a view of the TV and will sit on a branch that has a good view of the TV and watch.

When I'm home and studying he makes the rounds of the cage and occasionally zaps a roach or superworm in front of me while I'm studying. One more year then he is in the greenhouse 100%.

Are you crazy keeping him in a glass house?:D What TV shows does he like? My Parson likes Wipeout and World News and sometimes Real Housewives of Bevely Hills.

Rhino has responded well to having a somewhat open terrarium. If you look at some of the pictures in his album his giant cage inside the greenhouse has a lot of open spaces with branches and without any plants around. He regularly makes his round in the terrarium, however, if he has a couple spots where he can sit in a plant for some privacy he seems to be OK with that.

he looks amazing but, his enclosure needs some serious help! lol not too aesthetically pleasing. Seems to be doing just fine tho:)

Would you prefer cork bark sides and a soil bottom? Never have been a fan of the cork bark sides and the bottom I keep clear of soil. This allows me to set a couple Roaches and Superworms free for Rhino to hunt and not having to worry about them diapering in the soil. Plus it allows me much easier access to disinfect and clean the cage.

Would you make some recommendations?

that actually does make good sense:) just maybe some more green in there, like some potted schefflera, or pothos along the bottom?

I have got another terrarium in the apartment that is more heavily planted with pothos and a schefflera. The schefflera just died because superworms ate the roots and I have kind of stayed away from a ground cover kind of plant. Unlike Panthers and other chameleons once insects are under or partially covered by the pothos Rhino stops hunting them. While my panther keep going until they have got a meal. This is a major reason not to put more plants that cover the terrarium bottom. If I'm gone from 7 am to 7 pm and he has a clean bottom he can still hunt. If there is a covered bottom he could not. I am going to add other plants just not the ground cover type.

I think the setup is good, it's nice a roomy for him. I think the Large Ficus tree outside of his home is a good idea! Give him some free roam and fresh air and time to bug you a bit if he wonders off :D

I was going to ask how do you give him water in there? Do you have any misters hood up? Hand Spray? Dripper?

I make artificial rain from a large Hudson sprayer. The glass terrarium actually helps keep the humidity high. I spray him a couple times a day and he drinks until he is stops.
