Glacier vet trip

So... most of you know that Glacier tested positive by another vet for coccidia last week, and had a chronic prolapsing problem.

Went to the vet, (new vet, never been before)

While we were sitting waiting, I hear someone ask someone to print a reptile care sheet. in my head im going great, you don't know what you are doing.

Turns out, they just wanted a piece of paper to write down all my husbandry stuff. Which was all correct btw. (i knew it was, but they knew it was too)

After a fecal, he tested positive for coccidia, surprise, but this vet prescribed...... ponazuril! instead of the dreaded albon like the last vet.

No prolapsing, so we didnt need a stitch in the vent, and the vet said that the vent swelling was just from the coccidia.

So, we got .1 of a mililiter of ponazuril at the vet, and he gets another dose on friday. then we do a retest on the fecal on wednesday, if he tests clean, we are good, if he tests positive, we dose again!

And i got a gold star for being super super knowledgable about chameleons! [direct quote from the vet]

oh, and they wanted to keep him, cuz hes so cute, and want a baby when hes bred.

I was very happy they knew what they were doing, and she was very very knowledgable.

also learned something new.

Coccidia are free floating, meaning they can attach to specks of dust and float to another cage.

It looks like hes assuming the position to get check out, lol.

Hopefully everything will work out :]

haha yea, he was standing that way fo rlike 10 minutes whle he tried to figure out how to climb the poster. he wanted to so bad.

Interesting about coccida I did not know that either. This further emphasizes why we need to promote requirements for clean-animal importation (its a much bigger deal on the frog boards :p )

sucks to have to get them all tested

Well considering my two other boys are in another room, imnot too concerend about them.

I also just needed to get them tested anyway, its been 6 months since they were tested.

no clue how he got it, but oh well, we will deal with it.

If it can attach itself to dust..then it can attach to your hands, cloths, shoes, hair and be transported to your other chameleon room. I think this is very unlikely though. What did the vet prescribe and dosing>?

yea, i washed my hands and wore gloves when handlling him. but it doesnt really matter anyway, cuz im getting all four chams a fecal next week anyway. so anyone who has it, will get tested and traeted.

they prescribed ponazuril. .1 ml.

he got one dose today, and they sent me home with one more dose, same amount, to be given on friday.

when we got home from the vet, he ate a couple silkies. so id say he feels good! na na na na, i knew that he would now! ;)
