I am trying to give my Cham a liquid shot to treat for dehydration and the vet gave me a quick lesson but I can't get it, any ideas?

when my cham had injections the dum vet ( couldnt even tell the sex of my adult male veiled) had us hold im and inject if right above the shoulder

Do you mean your vet advised you to give subcutaneous fluids by yourself? Gosh, I dont think I'd do that. But Im a bit of a ninny and I dont like to cause pain. Probably I'd cause me even more stress than the animal.

I've only seen it done twice, and that was some time ago (and not my animal). The needle was held at an great angle, not stabbed directly in. Administered more or less about the forelegs (hip/shoulder?), more behind actually, not into the neck. The fluid was pushed in quite slowly.

thats how i did mine well actually i held him and my dad injected him

I had no luck! Not sure what to do from this point, going to call a few local vets tomorrow and see if I can get some help. I can't afford to go back to the exotic vet, it was $40.00 a day for the treatment at their office. Going to see if there is a rescue group in my area that could help maybe.

$40 seems inexpensive to me. a rescue group is a very good idea. or a local reptile club may have a knowledgeable member

Does the animal not accept water by mouth? It must be badly dehydrated?

I paid for a week of $40.00 a day plus test and I couldn't swing it any longer. I am a disabled vet and a full time student with two kids and a wife so money is tight. I wish I could swing for another week at the office but I just can't at the moment.

I understand - life happens. You dont need to defend yourself. Although, if you find you cannot pay for the animals care/needs, it might be wise to give it to someone who can and alleviate your stress, worry or guilt.
