Free Ranging Bugs

Hey, I was wondering how you guys freerange your insects, especially while bioactive? I tried doing it once and the red runners just hid under the leaves and never got eaten... Also isn't it an impaction risk? If they are walking around on the bottom and my cham gets one of them, he will for sure snag dirt in his mouth?

I free range silks, flys and hornworms only. Any type of worms my chameleons pick off quickly. I have bioactive enclosures too, things like roaches and crickets will hide if you free feed them, especially during the day.

The only thing I let loose in my enclosures are Black soldier flies and silks... Others like crickets, dubia, bsfl go into a feeder run. I only hand feed horns due to how firmly they attach to branches.

I’m not intentionally free ranging, but I have dropped a couple of roaches in Hammlet’s enclosure by accident. They are very quick to hide. I believe one of my ladies has been having a good time eating off her isopods. If she snagged a little dirt with it, it hasn’t affected her. The only feeder I intentionally dump in is older bsfl and I bury them under leaf litter. They become flying treats.
