Freddy's First Day outdoors

Although today has been a sad day for me. I lost my female Jackson this morning. I decided to let Fred out for the first time this year and I have to say, I have never seen him happier! It also helped me to not think of Wilma as much too.

Thank you! I have never lost a cham before and I didn't think I'de react so badly from it! I cried but bringing little Freddy out helped me quite a bit! Thank you for your kind words!

Thank you! He was so crazy outside today, running like crazy along the grassy yard. He would stop, look at a bug, and then take off running again. He's never had the opportunity to run like that so it was realy cool to see him so excited.

Thank you Shauna. I didn't see this coming what so ever! Yesterday she was completly fine, eating well, good colors, and drinking perfectly. This morning I went to see her and she was at the bottom of the cage and gone. I don't have any idea why or how she went from a perfectly healthy little cham to gone the next day. Its puzzling.

Thank you Lisa and Lisa h. You are soooo very right. Having Fred still has been very calming for me. It helps so much when i go to his cage and he does this mad dash at me to come out. I am going to miss her so much as she had the same sweet and friendly disposition as Fred. I was expecting many many years with her but I guess theres nothing I could of done to prevent it as she was very well taken care of and spoiled!!! I didn't see it coming...Freddy definatly allowed me to smile today even though my heart was hurt...I don't mean to sound like a sap or something but my chameleons are not just lizards to me, they realy were part of the family.

Nice looking jacksonii! How long have you had him? I ask because I tend to see quite a few long term captive ones looking very over weight and also with edema.

They are part of my family too, and I've cried everytime I've lost one, right down to a baby that only lived for a few minutes. What makes it better is having the other ones to look after and enjoy.

Were yours wild caught or captive born?

Freddy is captive born. I bought him last Oct but I don't realy know how old he is. The guy I got him from never told me his age. He is quite an active little guy and I love taking him out and sharing the world with him. Thank you for the nice compliments on him. His colors are beautiful. Sometimes he gets like a camoflaged color and today outdoors, he turned a light green with a baby blue tail, feet and head. So are they prone to edema and being over weight? By looking at him, can anyone tell me an approximate age? Thankfully I do have him as I know it would be that much harder...
