i got a cham from FL chams today. A veiled from newton's bloodline. he would keep running away from me or getting scared around noon.

Now get this...tonight he crawls on my hand, crawls up my arm, sleeps in my hair, hangs onto my ear, gets two inches close to my dog and stays perfectly bright green.

One concern...he ate three rather big superworms today but wouldnt eat crickets.

I THOUGHT THESE ARE SOLITARY CREATURES?? Why is he so friendly, is it the temperature and the fact that its night time? Boy I am in cham heaven, I really want feedback though, this is unlike what I've been reading.

I want to make sure he is healthy...i gut loaded the superworms with fluker farms cricket feed, apple slices, and calcium fortified water/gel. Am I on the right track?

Most of mine like to come out of the cage too, that does not make it healthy. Frequent handling is stressful for any chameleon.

Chams can totally be friendly, but it's a little rare. But if today's his first day at your home, let him settle in for the next few days. Don't take him out, just let him explore his cage and get comfortable. Then see if he's still willing to climb out onto your hand. I disagree that it's harmful for a friendly chameleon to be out with you. I think it's more harmful to have a terrified cham and force it to have to see you every day. But try to judge how comfortable he is honestly, and don't force it on him if you don't think he's comfortable with handling.

If he ate large superworms, maybe he was too full to eat crickets? Make sure the pray you're giving him isn't wider than the space between his eyes. It can be longer, but not wider. If you want to go to the health section of this forum and fill in the "how to ask for help" form, we'll help you make sure your entire setup is perfect for him.

And photos! Post photos of your new little guy and his cage! :D
