I have a female veiled chameleon that we were originally told it was a male. I am sure she is ready to lay eggs and I have filled a 50 gallon aquarium with sand that I keep wet enough to dig and hold so it won't cave in on her. My question is when she starts to roam do I put her in there and put a top on it or do I let her go to it herself? The aquarium is beside her cage and her favorite tree is in the aquarium as well. She is very fat and I am sure looking for a nesting place. Any info on this matter is greatly needed and quickly please as she started her roaming already.

If you put an opaque container at least 12 " deep by 12 " by 8 " full of moistened washed playsand in her cage she will have a place to start digging to show you that she is ready to lay the eggs. If you need/want to move her to the larger bin once she starts digging that would be fine...just don't move her back and forth.
