I have a 6mo old female veiled and have been reading alot of how people are setting up laying boxes for them to lay eggs. How soon would i need to do this and how do you make one?
Thanks,
Jodi

You need to get one now. It needs to be about 12 inches deep. I use washed play sand in mine. The sand needs to be moist to hold a tunnel that want cave in on her.

Thank you Jann. I just wasn't sure. Will get that done asap. Do you know a good place I could go and pick this sand up at?

What's the youngest they can develop eggs? I want to have a big cage built for my veiled by the time she's old enough to need a laying bin.

I was also wondering if someone could tell me how much she should be eating for her age?
I just feel that she is eating too much. Nomatter how many crickets, mealworms or superworms I give her, she always eats them. After about an hr, I will go in and check on her and all her food is gone. How many crickets should i be feeding her a day? I don't want to over feed her and have her get sick.
Thanks,
Jodi

I would think about the earliest they could lay would be around 5 months if over heated and over fed.

I would feed every other day starting around 5 1/2 to 6 months old. ^ to eight feeders each time depending on the size. Meal worms are not really good feeders. They are hard for them to digest. Try silkworms....they are excellent feeders.

I would just use the plain tan color sand.....no color.

So are you saying that pprox. 8 crickets every other day and then maybe silkworms or superworms? Than if thats the case, she is way over eating,

How old is she? At about 6 months I started my females on 8 feeders total everyother day. If the feeders were large even less. Now that my veileds are adults I only feed the same amount (6 to 8 feeders) 3 days a week. Mon, Wed & Fridays. I offer fruits and veggies also.....very small slivers on the days that they eat. They love apple, banana, strawberry and grapes.

Did you check out the link? You have to keep them cooler also. I keep my female around 80 at the hottest spot.

You don't know how much I appriciate this info. I for sure have been feeding way too much. What link are you talking about? Also, are you using like a feeding bowl or cup for the fruit? i can't wait to offer them some.:)

Awe...How cute...I am going to start some fruit first thing in the am...I remember trying fruit when i first got her and she wouldn't have anything to do with it. I put it on a leaf...I'll try again in a shallow dish.
