Is it true that female panther chameleons dont need a basking light? i read somewhere about that and idk if its true

its false, they need the heat to raise body temps and help digest their food just like males do

yea thats what i thought, it was weird because it said that females only need a basking spot if you are breeding them.

The idea I think they were trying to share was that non breeding females do not require the temps to be as high as breeders. By lowering the temps a few degrees you can slow or even stop the production of infertile eggs in many females. They still need a basking area with temps around 80 degrees instead of 85-90.

oh alright... that's interesting. Well thanks for the reply, it makes more sense now at what they were trying to convey

My female panther has the same basking spot as my males and eats almost the same amount and today was the first time she laid eggs this whole year. Not everyone plays by the same rules. :)

What an odd statement for the article to make! Chams bask under their UV lights too, and they DO need that exposure. Everyone's setup temps would be a little different at different times of year. There's no way anyone should try to make that blanket statement...nor should readers just accept it.
