Feeding Wild Bug Dinners

ello all i was just wondering what wild caught dinners everyone has tryed or not to try feeding your chams. I wouldnt mind throwing a list together for everyone. things ive tried... or he decided to try...

-brown grasshoppers- ive heard not to get the green ones
-brown moths
-hornet<--this wasnt by choice, fast tongue wrong place for hornet to fly
-wolf spiders, jumping spiders< again, his choice
-flies
-black crickets

but thats about it are there any others safe to give you know about? comments or replies are welcome

You can feed bees i know that. but you have to remove the stinger first. catch it, freeze it for a few minutes, and then remove the stinger. then letem loose!

Mine are given grasshoppers of any colour. They do not appear to have a preference or problems regardless of colour.

Moths are generally safe, regardless of colour - though they are high in fat and low in nutritional benefit. Still I occassionally give mine least skippers, big brown and grey ones, cabbage whites. I think the occassionaly flying insect is a good challenge.

I keep mine away from spiders and stinging insects, as well as wild flies (which could carry bacteria).

Mine dont care for black crickets as much as common browns, but they'll eat them.

Wild painted ladies are well enjoyed by mine.

Wild caught termites (especially this time of year when there are flying ones) are liked by most of mine chameleons.

At one time I offered wild caught snails and terrestrial isopods, but then I began to think the risks outweighted the benefits.

Cabbage lopper larva are nice small treats too.

good to know bout the green grasshoppers thanks. and yea i pry wouldnt of did the spiders or hornet on my own but he must of thought they looked tastey. mines the same with the black crickets though he prefers the brown ones as opposed to the black ones

yes, people do offer cicadas and Katydid too. its a valid option for a large enough chameleon. They do come with parasite risks.

Cicadas are fine as long as they arent too big.

Ive fed black crickets, various species of moths, a few safe species of butterflies, various species of spiders (wolf, crab, jumping, orb weavers, would louse spiders, etc. Anything that isnt a brown recluse or black widow), multiple species of grasshoppers (not lubbers), camel/cave crickets, aphids, katydids, cicadas and I think thats about it

Sandra and cain jsut gave the all clear for them, so tomorrow, time to get hunting. people will think im crazy, running around outside with a net, searching thru trees

Last week when my little guy was in his outside enclosure, a stinkbug got in. He ran over so fast and gobbled that thing up! It didn't seem to hurt him although I'm not sure I would go out and collect them!

how do you feed any type of bee? they die if u pull the stings out. as for the katdids they are cool feeders and make feeding fun for the chameleon and the owner. my cham is active but a lazy hunter he gets 2inchs from his prey b4 "sniping" it with his tounge. when i cup feed he puts more than half his body in the cup. :/ so i try to free range feed but if he dont get a cricket they annoy me all night..

They do die. but not immediately.

Is he capable of extending his tongue fully, does her ever catch prey naturally, from distance? If not, there may be an issue (not laziness)

One of my Jackson's would eat the cockroaches. hawaii is infested with roaches, so you can't really avoid them and he would free range and all of a sudden BLAP, he'd grab a roach off of the counter or the wall that we didn't see. After about 3 months, we had way fewer roaches than our next door neighbors. lol. No bad effects and he lovveedd them. I dunno how good or bad they were for him, but he would hunt them down.
