Feeding: Everyday vs. Every other day.

I know a lot of people feed their chams every day. I have always fed my Jackson's every other day. He is just over a year. I find when i do this, i get a much better feeding response from him. He goes right for the food as soon as he see's it, which doesn't give the feeders (usually dubias) anytime to shake the multivitamin powder off themselves. I also figure in the wild, chams don't eat/find food daily…..your thoughts…….

I hope you aren't using a multi vit at every feeding? It's only recommend a couple time a month.

I cut my chameleons back to every other day somewhere between 6 and 8 months. Then around 16 to 18 months to 3 days a week feedings.

I'm on board with Jann. When they are little I would let them eat everyday as they are growing and need the nutrition. Around a year old usually is when most start to cut back to every other day.

my chameleons are fed about 5 or 6 days of the week. There is no lack of interest /appetite and no downside to regular feeding if the quantity is appropriate and the variety adequate.

I have no idea how often or irregularly chameleons eat in the wild. I suspect they eat fairly small numbers, on a regular basis, and that their small stomachs are geared to small number (1-2) at a time, rather than having 5 -10 items all at once. If mine have to go three days in a row without food I don't worry. If they get to eat 10 days straight with no days hungry I also don't worry. And I have no reason to think every other day feeding is bad.

But What I do know for sure is that my chameleons are healthy and long-lived :) so I know there is no danger in my not adhering with the forum-common every other day routine.

I feed mine usually every other day. When my female is pregnant I usually feed her everyday with higher calcium doses. She gobbles me up at this time, never had to worry about her not eating.

No, i definitely do not powder with multi vitamins every feeding. Actually, i'm a firm believer that gut loading is far superior to dusting.
