Feeding a Baby

Hey, So my Cham is coming next week (ambanja/ambilobe) and I have been notified just how much of a baby he is.

He is still eating 2 week crickets and fruit flies.

Are 2 week crickets equivalent to 1/4" or are they pinheads?

I wont be sure of his exact size till he gets here. I guess I cant really feed horns or butters just yet, Is it okay for him to have limited diet until he gets older?

As long as crickets are gutloaded well and I supplement appropriately?

Or can I feed mealworms right away? What is the rule, no bug longer than the length of his head? So mealworms are too long then?

a good rule to follow is no feeder bigger than the space between their eyes. 2 week old crickets should be about 1/4". if they're eating 1/4" crickets, then FF's are usually too small of a feeder for them. even if your crickets are well gut loaded, you still want to supplement.

you can start feeding them other feeders at any age but just be careful not to spoil them or they will go on a hunger strike for their favorite foods. crickets, dubias and silkworms are good staples and all other feeders should be fed as treats and not very often. good luck and post pics when you get your new cham.

No feeder bigger in what way? Length? The rule you stated makes it seem like you could never feed worms.. The space between their eyes never gets larger than 3/4"-1", many bugs are much larger than this..

I need a little clarification. I can realize that I shouldn't feed something WIDER than the width between his eyes, but does length matter?

Also you mention that you would only use crickets/roaches/silks as main food.

I realize that mealworms aren't that great and superworms aren't much better, but what about hornworms? Butterworms? Pheonix Worms?

I don't know if I will ever get into dubia's or silks because they aren't available. I would have to breed my own. I may try to breed silks.

I don't want to feed only crickets, which is what is left from your recommended list.

Im going to have to feed worms too, so what im trying to ask is when can I start feeding worms?

Clarify the rule?
