This thread is here to help add on and make better this blog:
THE FAQ BLOG

With your help, many new chameleon owners can become informed, and information in one centralized location can make things a lot simpler. Think of it as a reference.
Every contribution helps not only yourself, but many other people. You don't have to be an expert to help! There are many ways you can help.

You can help and contribute the following ways:

  • Questions you see posted often.
    • You may even include your own questions you feel are frequently asked.
    • Please check the blog and make sure you don't accidentally post something that is already answered. :)
  • Answers to questions you see posted often.
    • Link form is preferred, but short answers that answer the question perfectly are good as well.
    • Pictures would be great to add on to the links. Some people are visual learners.
      • This must be your own picture, or you must own the rights to it. No exceptions.
  • Your own feedback you think would help look the blog look neater or more "user-friendly".
    • Color, bold, underlined, etc.
  • Locate human error.
    • Grammatical errors.
    • Broken or bad links.
      • When reporting this, please provide the link that is broken.
    • Bad information in a link or answer.
      • Please make sure you are sure before reporting this type of thing. Also, I am by no means an expert on any species of chameleon, so I can not check this information.

Thank you so much ahead of time for any help you can give.
Remember, keep it short, simple, yet informative!

What about a question along the lines of "What is a urate?" or "Why is my chameleons urate orange?" or "What does urate color have to do with my chameleons health?". Something to do with hydration and urate color.

Thanks Danny, unfortunately I don't have any good links for a good answer. Hopefully someone else does! :)

There is a link somewhere around here showing picture documentation of proper urates. I think Dave Weldon posted it.

Bump (for great justice!)

Questions that require good links to information:

Can I handle my chameleon? (How often, long, etc.)
Why is my chameleon not eating, I just got it! (Or other variations of this question)
What do you clean your cage with? (Vivariums w/live plants, screen cages, glass, etc..)

I would really like to get the FAQ updated with a bit of information. Please help out if you can.

You should get the numbers thing on there too. That has been popping up quite a bit. 0.0.0

This is more geared towards chameleon issues, not forum issues... however there could be another FAQ for that!
"why is my cham sleeping during the day?" the CFL issue
That could be a subquestion perhaps, or do you think it could be it's own question?

Just to throw a few more out there:

Common stress colors for the more common species.
Issues that lead to stress ( multiple chameleons in one enclosure, other species, height of cage so it feels secure, etc.)

I think these weren't mentioned (I think lol) and they are very important when it comes to proper husbandry.

Good post, Panda. I will add that to the blog.

Winston, do you have any pictures etc. that could be used?

how about "why is does female look fat" the issue with people not knowing their female cham is going to lay an infertile clutch

the name isnt so great but i feel its a topic that needs to be addressed for new cham owners

I am wondering if I should have separate FAQs for each topic, husbandry, health, etc.

Jamnchristian, sometimes that is not the only issue, though.

So something along the lines of...

Why is my female fat/bloated?
Your female could be ready to lay an infertile clutch. Are there bumps visible on her sides? Take a look at this link here, need one :( . If she is not ready to lay a clutch however, she may be (impacted? gout? who knows..) and a vet visit may be necessary.

Good posts, thank you. I don't breed so I don't have any good links for this. Hopefully someone will pop in. :)
