familiar situation...

I went to the Reptile Centre at the weekend to grab supplies & they had a female veiled, about 5 months old, clinging to a branch with her eyes shut :(

I advised a member of staff that this was a symptom of serious illness & they just said they inform the reptile guy... I left feeling that I had done what I could, but now I can't stop thinking about her & feeling frustrated because I'm pretty sure they'll ignore me. I'd rescue her but I'm not paying for a sick animal & I don't think they'd let me just have her, I'm also terrible at such negoiations because I'm a wuss. In addition to that, I can't take on an animal & expect my boyfriend to immediately pay out for vet fees (I'm unemployed) when we have 12 other animals to think of.

Sooo... there's not much I can do, & it's frustrating and sad. I don't know if the RSPCA have any rights to take action.

I don't think you could take her on, it would be too much, especially with the vet fees. It might be worth looking into regulations around selling animals, you might be able to report it to whichever authority inspects pet shops.

What a dilemma. It might be worth a phone call. I know that reptile shops here often have inspections as they have been reported usually maliciously, so I think they have to investigate. What about your local paper?

I didn't think about inspections but that might be right path to go down.

I wouldn't go to the paper, cos I don't know the full situation, for all I know, she came from their supplier that way. They can't have had her in 'stock' for more than a week because she wasn't there last time I visited. However, I do have my concerns about a pair of jacksons they have as well- they're lights appear to be switched off until someone walks past, & then they switch on, like there's a sensor, & those 2 have been in stock for a while.

I guess it would be good to call the RSPCA cos they're going to know more about regulations than I am & they can pass the complaint on to the correct people.

If this is a independently ran store. Take a care sheet to them and type up some ways to help the girl. Maybe someone will read and take action.
