El Dorado's Mini Saloon...

I decided to make El Dorado a "Mini Saloon"....:) He's still a little guy, so he gets a little cage. ;) It's a 12"x10"x20" Screen cage, with a pvc bottom, same as LLL cages. When you own a furniture store and business is slow you find stuff to do... Anyhoo... I have a ton of wood and stuff here at the shop, so it was a freebee project. It's pine, and was distressed to give in that "western" look.

Jay I did not sell you that boy so you could have him as a drinking buddy, a saloon indeed!! His saloon looks great but he is much to young to drink liquor.

Nice looking cage!!! If only I could build one like that. Mine are a mess hahaha. They do what they are supposed to though, keep them in:rolleyes:

I would like to see you and your drinkin buddy in there together:D

5 stars for this thread. That is one hot homemade cage. Nicely done!

I am still wrapping mine up. Wait till you see it, it's like comparing ground beef to filet mignon.

I love the stain, in fact the whole thing looks very professional.

hey Jay,

sorry bro, but that thing is just way too small for your new little guy and me to sitdown and and have a drink together.
...and don't even think that I'm going to sit outside such a nice cage while he gets to drink inside it! :p

wow Jay, that looks nicer then some peoples houses. great job bro.

Thank you guys for the comments, I'm glad you like it.:)

I really enjoy working with wood and am fortunate enough to have a wood shop at work.

I try to reuse old pieces of cut offs and damaged furniture to make usable stuff, when ever I can. Go Green!! :D

You guys are gonna laugh when I tell you what that cage started out life as....:D

I have a hard time believing 2 things.

1. It was made from a palette

2. A palette was in good enough quality to turn into something like that. I don't think I have ever seen a palette that wasn't beaten up.

Proved me wrong though. Awesome stuff.

so, you wana redo my kitchen, Jay?
I'll fly ya in...

extra, realy nice job you did with junk. grats

You rock!!

I love when people use what is no longer usable to make something great..and even moreso to house something special. You go boy!

My bf and I have been trying to build a new cage for our ambanja, but the screen is all pokey from where it was cut. So, I was wondering how you attached the screening to the frame of your cage?

I used a pneumatic upholstery staple gun, with 3/8" staples.

I have some very cool vintage upholstery guns from I'm guessing the 50's-60's when we used to manufactuer sofas and chairs.

A simular gun today would run you about $200 and up. :( So I am very excited to have inherited 5 of them!:)

You can use just about any pneumatic staple gun though. The hand staplers just don't have enough power to drive staples into wood very well. I also trim the screen along the staple line to prevent rough edges.

Some better photos of the cage on my regular camera, incase anyone wanted to see it better then the camera phone picture.

I had El Dorado in it for the first time today and he seams to like it, I added some repti-vines and a umbrella plant. It just wasn't warm enough now to leave him in it for very long. Hopefully we'll have better weather on Wednesday.
