Dwarf Jacksons Chameleons

Hi, I am looking around FLChams and i see that they are selling Dwarf Mt. Meru Jacksons Chameleons, I am interested in getting a breeding pair this fall. after i do my full lenght research and get their cages built and get the supplies i need any insight to these dwarf jacksons chams? anyone own them on the forum pics would help!

They are the smallest of all jacksons, males reaching if I remember right 7 to 8 inches in total lenght. They really are small guys, requiring lower temperatures and higher humidity. When you get them make sure to offer them alot of water. Keep doing your research, Im sure they are not that difficult to keep.

Wow! That is really small. If they have the personality of a regular sized Jackson's..I bet they would be really fun to keep!

I've had merus a few times and I keep them the same way I do Fischer's multis.
They are awesome little chameleons but difficult to get to reproduce IMHO....as are quite a few of the more "montane" species.

Why is that if you dont mind me asking? I heard that it is hard to raise jackson offspring.

i hate to sound unkind but if your cham experience is limited to 1 3 mont old veiled, and you have problems keeping food on hand, and would't figure out what to do with your cham when you & your family left town, i would wait on the meru jacksons. They take a lot of care and it wold be easy for you to lose them. Keeping the correct temps & humidity in a mobile hole in south dakota would provide a large challenge. jmo

well.. I have run out of food. and i am trying to get out of my house to get more but my mother isn't home so i can leave... the problem with me finding a place for them isn't a problem anymore... and my home isn't horribly cold at night and just because i live in one doesn't mean i can make specific changes to the room... i can make the right requirements too... and the whole point of the thread is to find info on them and get the right knowlegde on them.. there are minor setbacks at points but i work through them... and south dakota does get cold but i am sure i am up for the challenge. i have kept semi aquatic turtles and multiple other animals in my mobile home... and i also can go to my dads and have some there since he is not in a mobile home...

It really isn't just about living in a mobile home, I live in Montana and know the temps we get in winter and I know a mobile home would get colder faster than my house. When the power goes off all my chams could easily die with out the back up generator in the garage. It is the total of all the risk factors that make me suggest you wait a while.

that is a risk for everyone that lives in the Northern US during winter.. power goes and out it happens... it could happen to you to. and i plan on getting all the supplies i need. and thats why i can always got to my dads and take care of my chams..

one of mine too I have a breeder that is wanting to order me two for a breeding pair I hope it works and hopefully i will get the help i will need instead of getting no help at all.

I gotta agree alot with laurie. I just got done reading a 5 page post on how you couldnt keep 1 cham fed and had every excuse why you couldnt fix the problem. You were only able to fix the problem once everyone knew your life story and throw every solution in the book at you. This forum is designed to help each other out and promote the healthy growth of your chameleons. with that considered......i would suggest getting used to keeping one healthy, before you start a collection of a more delicate genus. Just my opinion. I wish you a lot of luck and hope that you can keep your food supply up.

well trust me i have no reason to lie about why i can't get the food. i don't have a house key and i couldn't leave since my mom was gone all day. :/ i didn't have a chance to get the food today. i am not able to catch insects because of pesticides. and I don't see why people are chewing me out because I am interested in these species part of doing research. and you should never say you know my life story... sorry knew. i had a dilema today. not like i am the only one that has had this problem before.

I have done all of my research but probably missed a few things during the 3-4 month period of researching this species (Veileds) and I was supposed to by a dubia colony the other day but my mom put a stop to it! she doesn't allow roaches in the house.
