Parson's chameleons were first bred, hatched, and raised in captivity in San Diego.
Interesting.... And are they still?
Thank you everyone for the replies and education. After much research, I realize I'm unable to give them the type of space that they require, so I guess this dream will have to hold off for now.
I'd still love to see one in person though. I can't fathom a full grown size. Maybe someday...Thanks again.
Nope. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 4 different breeders who hatched parsonii in Southern California but the only one who (probably) still has them is now against the keeping of chameleons in captivity. For the record, though, Ken Kalisch and Ardi Abate were the first to hatch each subspecies outside Madagascar. Linda Davison of Sticky Tongue Farms hatched close to one hundred of them, also.
Thanks for the history lesson Kent, 100 parsonii is impressive! I couldnt even imagine...
I hope someone has that kind of success again in the future.
Andreas and two others have had 100% hatch rates this season. However they live in Germany.
I was aware of these, just no one whos had such success in the states. Prior to Kents comment that is..
