Does a corn snake need UVB?

No it doesnt neede UVB. I have a five foot corn that has a heat mat and one of those energy light saving bulbs in so i can look in the viv. You don't have to have a light though all you need is a heat mat
:)

Some species do seem to require it, such as Morelia spilota spilota (diamond python)
Others seem to do just fine without it! Your corn snake will do fine without it, but that said, UV is a natural byproduct of thermoregulation, and since corns are not strictly nocturnal (morning and afternoon basking in the wild), if you chose to provide it, it certainly wont hurt it! It may even improve appetite and color. (some claim so)
[note: as with any reptile, guard closely against overheating when outdoors]

A natural photoperiod is recomended, especially if you ever intend to breed.
