Chameleons are not easy to take care of, especially if it is your first reptile. You really seemed to do your best and genuinely cared about his health. I bet you have learned a lot about chameleons recently and would be more successful in the future. It is unfortunate that your vet was unable to find any problems; a good vet with chameleon experience and knowledge is priceless.
