I did the exact same thing with the PVC pipe but it doesn't work unless you have something to scratch the inside of the pipe, it's slippery for the crickets to clim up into it. If you check the cricket keeper tubes they have some kind of scratches or something that provides a grip for the crickets to clim in there...

Yah! I thought about this too.
At the very begining of th tubes I use the steel wool attachement on the dremel to roughen it up a bit. What age crix are you using?
Cause the 4-weeks have no problem climbing into the smooth pvc pipe, thats why I didn't include that in my tutorial, I'll add it now for people using younger crix/
