Discovery life

Did anyone else see the new series that Discovery is doing called Life. I though it was pretty good but I really like all the slow motion shots of chameleons eating. They had at least 5 really good ones but they were all slow motion of the tongues hitting different bugs. Its interesting to see how the tongues shoot and how the end of the tongue engulfs the bug. Here a link to the website for the show you can find some of the good ones on there along with a lot of other good stuff.

ya i love that one shot they got of the chams toung coming from the blurred background and catching the mantis, the things an HD chamera and slow mo can do :)

It was okay but also hoping for more. I was hoping for less Oprah.
Couldn't we get Morgan Freeman or Samuel Jackson? How about Seinfeld?

I noticed on a few things she sounded kinda well "stupid" I guess is the word to me. Maybe it is just because I use the word octopii instead of octopuses but some other times I was like "what is she talking about?" It just didn't seem to fit.

Ya it was alright I wasnt expecting something incredible but they did have some pretty cool videos. I thought oprah did OK but i wasnt expecting much. I just thought the tongue shots that you could see exactly trajectory but my favorite was the end of the tongue. You never get to see how it almost sucks into inself when it hits the prey. I think ill prob keep watching it becasue I just love animals and there are some that were better than others.

Lol i thought the same thing i hate oprah, morgan freeman would of been tight!! lol SEINFELD

It wasnt to bad. I think I was expecting a little to much, but i enjoyed it. I was suprised to see the cham stole that grasshopper from the spiders web.

I enjoyed it. I wanted to see some baby panthers though!! They showed the whole process from egg laying to hatching/tadpole to frog for a bunch of the other animals but not for the panthers :(

I was completely surprised by the desert chameleons mating ritual though :)

I thought it was a bit repetitive. I guess that was okay because my husband missed the fabulous mantis eating shot the first time....but got to catch it when they used it again in the next episode. Oprah should record bed time stories....she made me want to take a nap.

I enjoyed it but thought it could have been better, or I was thinking it was going to be better. Yes, why Oprah, and no David Attenborough, why?? Freeman would have been great as well!

The original series on BBC was narrated by David Attenborough; I would MUCH prefer to hear his narration.

Also, I found some interesting tidbits from Wikipedia

New camera technology was used to build on the cinematic techniques first employed in Planet Earth, notably the pioneering use of stabilised helicopter-mounted cameras. The Life crew succeeded in using gyroscopic stabilisation to create steady shots from moving vehicles, even on rough terrain, allowing the cameras to track alongside reindeer and elephant herds for the first time. Miniature high-definition cameras were used extensively for the "Insects" programme. In the forests of Mexico, the crew erected a spider's web of cables in the canopy to give the sense of flying alongside millions of monarch butterflies. In Zambia, they filmed from a hot air balloon to avoid disturbing the huge flocks of straw-coloured fruit bats.

Following recent debate about the use of artifice in natural history programmes, the BBC were more candid about sequences which had not been filmed in the wild. Close-ups of wild clownfish would have disturbed their natural behaviour, so captive animals were filmed in an aquarium at a Welsh university.

Despite the best efforts of the film-makers, some sequences ended up on the cutting room floor. Scientists in Arctic Scandinavia had accumulated enough evidence to suggest that golden eagles were the main predators of reindeer calves, but an attack had never been witnessed. After two summers tracking the herds in Finland, cameraman Barrie Britton finally filmed a hunt in full. However, the attack had taken place nearly a mile away, and the footage was too distant to be considered for broadcast.

Nice video work, horrible choice of narrator (they should have kept Attenborough or gotten someone like Morgan Freeman), and the "facts" in the script had a lot of errors.
