Digging?????

My chameleon is digging. its been over a week now. Has not ate either. She is spayed so we dont understand the digging. she gets in a mode where her eyes are closes while she is digging, at that point you can hold her and do practically whatever you want to her until she basically snaps out of it and realizes your there. we completely redid her cage and put new everything in there...and she is back to digging again. We dont know what is wrong at all??????

shes probably gravid shes about to lay you need to increase her calcium intake after she has laid and watch her carefully in this process
provide a deep digging box

this is matts wife just so you know. And thats how we bought her...she is over a year old but we bought her spayed. If you dont eventually spay them, their eggs will get impacted and have calcium defitency(dont know how to spell that). So why else do you think she would be digging?

If you read the Spade Cham thread It did not end well for that cham sadly, it ended up still producing enough eggs to harm and even kill the animal.

I would consider trying to get her to lay eggs ( or otherwise letting her perform mating rituals) and perhaps a vet visit is in order.

well thatt forum that i read said that she shouldnt be doing that, that spay should throw of the hormones.
Sorry for calling you dude matts wife :p

psi-(spade chameleons)...sounds very simular to our chameleon. If she does want to lay or she was not correctly spayed..what all do i need to do to help her lay or feel comfortable? And how do you give her calcium if she wont eat?

the other cham was supposed to be spade also and still produced eggs and relating behavior, that otherwise should not be seen in a proper hysterectomy.

i dunno maybe I interpreted it wrong.

well all you really can do is let her dig, cant stop her. Just watch over her and she should starting eating soon and when she does dust your crickets properly.
And pray no complications happen.

when she doesnt lay, or she just starts looking sick you would normally be able to tell when a female chams off their game.
They tend to stay in one spot, not eat, they my sleep during the day, or become impacted

yes, at what point do we need to take her to the vet? Should i try feeding her everyday? saturday we tried horned worms...no luck then superworms...not interested...sunday crickets...again no luck. So she had three different options of food..none of them appealed to her. She does seem to go to sleep early even when its still light out.

Thanks mate

so as a general rule observe your animal so you know when abnormal behavior is happening and go from there.

Cant help my curiosity these animals are sweet and deserve good care.

yes she does look really blodded a times. but you can nly tell when she doesnt know your watching her....so i guess when she is relaxed. but when she knows your there or are watching her she sucks in...lol

I dont know if its jumping the gun but an X-Ray might already be in order.

How long has this been going on?

what is she like now is she moving around are her eyes alert and looking at everything, is she lethargic, drinking?

@greenguy420, My suggestion to you would be to please stop giving 'advice'. I am assuming by the content of your posts that you do not have any experience with this situation.

@Mattman03, It is possible that some of the follicles were left during surgery. If that is the case she would still produce eggs, though she may not be able to lay them, which would be life threatening. You really need to get her to a vet ASAP. There really isn't a reason to wait and see what happens.
