Digging?

We have just come back up to check on Colin and we noticed he was at the bottom right corner of his cage digging!!? What on earth is he digging for. Do you think he's hungry or something? We do have substrate in at the moment but we're about to take it out and replace it with newspaper. Woudl this be suitable?

Newspaper works just fine. What kind of cage are you using? I think I remember seeing a thread about Colin, but he is a Male Veiled correct?

Yeh he is a male, but we are definately going to check that. The cage is an exo terra glass screened cage (but not glass on the back). There are a lot of plants on the side's of the tank so that there isn't too much glass. We just found it a bit bizarre that he was on the floor digging. He's back up in his plants again now and seems ok.

Sometimes they will just dig. He is probably just checking out his new home. Get the substrate out as soon as possible.

At the mo it's 80F toward the top of his cage. We brought him a live plant today so hopefully it will brighten it up in there =D

What kind of thermometer? The analog ones are garbage...It is easy to cook those guys in glass.

Just a bog standard thermometer? What kind do you suggest we get? Do you thing that it's because he is too hot?

If it is in fact a male that is usually the case. Get a $7.00 digital thermometer with a probe on the end and put it on the highest basking branch under the light for 5 minutes and see what the temp is.
