Decent budget Digital Camera?

So, I have been using a dinosaur for my pictures. I can usually get decently clear photos after a few tries, but I think it's time to upgrade a bit haha.

I'd like to stay below $150.

Megapixels doesn't matter as much, but let's say at least 8 MP. I have heard TOO many MP on cameras that aren't that great can actually be an issue.

And then at least 10x Optical Zoom. I am mainly concerned with this as taking close ups are what I am having issues with.

My current has 3x Optical Zoom and 8.2 MP

Any help would be appreciated! Nikon VS Canon VS whatever else etc, thanks!

Hey if you look on graigslist you will probable be able to find something cheaper then a store and still be able to get a good camera

I have a canon power shot that's 16mp but only 5x optical zoom. They are on sale this time of year and new and better models come out every year and ingot mine on sale for $80 bit you can easily find one a bit better but still in your price range.
