Dark colours in cage

Ok so I have had my Cham for 3 days now, he is eating and drinking well. Im wondering why it is that he displays dark colours all the time. His temps are fine so I'm guessing it's just stress but when I take him out and put him on his free range plant he brightens up?

Why is he so dark in his cage? Shouldn't he just be colourfull nearly all the time?

He is either dark because he is soaking up UVA or UVB, or he is stressed.

What type of chameleon? How old is he? Its somewhat normal for a young chameleon to stay dark, especially after a move from somewhere else.

He is coming up to 5 months, he is a male panther, Ankify X Ambilobe;)

Can we see some pics of your guy??? There is a differance between stress dark and basking dark.... Also wanna see that combo of locales;)

Sure, For the pics when he is colourful i have taken him out and put him on his free range plant where his colours look good.

Pic 3 is him back in his cage. these pics i think he is actually baking but he never really changes from this colour even when not basking. He has never gone the colours in the first pics in his cage..:(

BTW he is coming up to 5 months old

Hey Lala,

The same thing happened with mine when I got him (about a month ago). Now that hes been with me for a month, he's calmed down a little bit and gotten used to his new home, so he shows his colors much more often.

He was dark for like the first 3 weeks, so maybe yours is still just adapting to his new home! JMO
