Hi this is my chameleon Oscar his eyes have been crusted for awhile. Anyone know what I should do? I make it really humid in shower I take him in the sun etc. (he goes everywhere with me: stores, vacation, etc. he is a year and a couple months year old.) any further questions please ask! Well first off, you should absolutely not be taking him everywhere with you. That is incredibly stressful for asocial animals like chameleons and has undoubtedly damaged his immune system and increased the likelihood of illness.

What supplements do you use, and how often? If this has been going on for a while, then he needed a vet a long time ago

He’s been doing it since really young he is more of a puppy then a chameleon and he really enjoys being out, and yes I’m planning on going to a vet.

No, he doesn't. You are just anthropomorphizing his behavior. Chameleons cannot be compared to a mammal of any kind and mistaking their behavior as such is very, very dangerous.

More importantly, like I asked already, what is your supplement schedule?

He also seems to be overweight based on his cheeks and casque. A feeding schedule will need to be supplied.

Chameleons are not puppies no matter how much you think they want to be with you or cuddled. These animals would honestly rather be left alone. Yes you can handle your chameleon but taking him “everywhere” as you described is going to cause a high amount of stress and ultimately effect his health. Filling out this form below will give us a better understanding of your husbandry. As for the eye problems it could be a supplementation problem as said above.


Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.


Chameleon Info:

• Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
• Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

thanks for worrying but I can take care of him without cooping him up his whole life. I mean this in the ‘nicest’ way. But I can raise my chameleon the way I want and he’s enjoying life whether u believe me or not now I’m ignoring u. :>

So you came asking for help, received help, and got mad and ran away?

Your chameleon is very sick. He will die without intervention. And we could help, if you would work with us. Starting with his supplement schedule. If this is off, then that very much explains what could be going on here

Well you can do what ever you want but you won’t be doing it with a chameleon for very long if you take it every where you go.

I hope you understand that the members are just trying to help. Most Chameleons will stress when brought out into the open. Stress is very difficult to detect in Chameleons until they are already sick.

I know some members who take their chams out but they are long time veterans who are used to looking for the signs of a stressed or sick chameleon. I don't know how long you have been in the hobby but I hope you can tell if he is sick or not.

Your Cham will most certainly die without proper care. This is an arboreal reptile not a dog... Your keeping him in a hyper state of stress and not providing the most basic needs. Clearly you are not open to advice or learning more about how to properly care for your chameleon.

Unfortunately, not the first time we have all seen this and sadly won't be the last... When retail pet stores start making sure people are educated first before making a sale then maybe this type of abuse will end. We can only hope.

He has no signs of stress. Just cause he’s raised abnormal doesn’t mean he’s gonna die thanks for worrying tho. now I’m leaving chameleon forums to not deal with ppl like y’all.
