Coughing? Or sneezing? I don't know.

So for about 2 weeks now, my husband has been noticing that Echo has been making a noise. It's kinda hard to explain, but it sounds like when a cat has a hairball. He opens his mouth when he does it and it only happens a couple times, then it's over. The whole branch he is sitting on kinda shakes when he does it, but as soon as it's over, he goes about his business. I have now seen him do it twice, in the last 12 hours. Last night, when he was dead asleep, well after lights out. And then this morning, after basking a little while, and beginning to move around his cage. He eats and drinks fine, and has not lost any weight. He doesn't have any kind of discharge, noisy breathing, or bubbles. Could it just be the dryer air in the house, because of the furnace? Or could he have caught the bug that my daughter has? Even though he doesn't interact with her, his cage is in our living room, and therefore he's still breathing the same air we breathe. I'm just not sure if this is just something they normally do sometimes, or if it's something to warrant a vet trip in the middle of winter. @ferretinmyshoes , I think you're the forum vet, can you offer any help? Thanks in advance!

Well I can ease your mind with one thing, he couldn't catch an illness from your daughter. Most pathogens are species specific, I'm not sure if there even is anything that could go human to reptile? Maybe some rare parasites/bacterial infections? Nothing to worry about in this case though I'd think, though I'm no vet. Could it be due to dry air?

What is the humidity level in the enclosure right after misting? What about at night? It is a bit concerning that it happens at night when Echo is sleeping.

As stated, I wouldn't be concerned with a chameleon catching a cold from a human. If it continues I think a vet visit could be worth it.

I'm thinking about getting a cool mist humidifier and putting it next to the cage. That might help. It's very strange, though!

That's a great idea, but doesn't answer the question. Currently, what are your humidity levels in in general, after misting, and at night?

I honestly don't know. My hygrometer broke, so I have to get another one, but I didn't have any issues last winter, and nothing has changed.
