With all of the bad info that we get on our chams from the internet and local pet stores, I wanted to know how you guys take care of your bearded dragons. As far as food water suppliments terrarium temps all that good stuff. I want to make sure that if I get one that he's taken good care of like my jackson is.

Thanks

I just saw that someone posted a similar post like this :/ sorry... lol

I love my bearded dragon, I feed him a staple diet of between 50-75 crickets a day, with calcium every day and herptivite every other day, plus collars greens every day and I alternate squash, carrots, apples, mangos, etc. In with the greens. I have a combo water dish/hide spot that he can soak in Or hide under, and I keep his basking spot at 105 under a 100w powersun bulb on a twelve hour light cycle. Keep the humidity low, but I give Rex a long soak in warm water a few times a week to aid with shedding. He loves eating veggies and fruit from my hand :) and coming out to explore Or just hang out. He's a juvenile still, so he won't always be eating so many crickets, but they eat more than enough to make you want to buy in bulk when they're growing haha. Basically they can and will eat anything you would gutload your chameleons crickets with, plus the crickets. Maybe not as colorful, but they're amazing, curious little guys that will totally steal your heart

Bearded Dragons

I had a bearded dragon a few years ago they are very cool reptiles that dont mind to be handled some even perk up when they see you because they accociate you with food. I had my juvi in a 20 gallon long and used a mercury vapor bulb to supply his uva and uvb. He looved crickets and supper worms and always ate his veggies. Kind of ironic how I went to the san diego super show to get my first veiled and left all my animals in my dads care. When I came home I found him dead choked to death on a piece of bok choy. What happened was that my dad feed him the stem of the bok choy not the leafy part so always be sure to cut up his greens and obviously never feed him the hard part of any vegitable.

Aw man sorry to hear that.... :(

What would be the live food to veggies and fruits ratio. And do they start eating less crickets as they get older? I know that that is the case with iguanas. Can they also have othjer feeders like meal worms and dubia roaches etc?

Info

When rasing a juvi try to provide more insects than veggies as they get old try intoducing more veggies into his diet, an adult should have at least a 60% veggie 40% meat diet some people will even say more veggies than that. Beardies can eat all kinds of bugs crickets and mealworms even superworms when they get a little older roaches are als a good feeder and I have heard of people feeding adults pinkey mice as a treat. As a treat for smaller beardie I would use wax worms or butter worms.

I miss my beardie. He was who ate all my adult dubia. Now I give them to a kid in town with a beardie. They gradually need to move from eating mostly crickets to mostly veggies.

We have a bearded dragon that is close to 10 years old and still very healthy. i feel like they are pretty tough since my son was not always responsible with feeding/lighting/suppliments. My daughter took over that responsibility, since Josh is leaving for the Navy, and he is cared for properly now. Nevertheless, he is great, healthy, and no signs of dying anytime soon!

Fluxlizard has an excellent care sheet on beardies! I find my bearded dragon to be very entertaining a fun to watch! VERY comical, hence his name..... Screwie Louie!

Haha yeah I got his caresheet :) I just wanted to see how us on the forums take care of beardies thanks for all the info guys :) and I'll try to post some pics when I get mine ;)

One last question. Is there any fruits or veggies that I should keep to a minimum or stay away from?

Veggies

Do not use iceberg lettuce as it contains little nurtition, also if you feed carrots cut them up very fine and feed on top of other veggies. Give fruits as treats for beardies as you would give fruit to a tortise.

stay away from spinach and broccoli too! we have 4 beardies, they're like the puppies of the reptile world! We even found these super cute harness made by Beths kids at Greathouse Farm! they have beautiful beardies and the harness can be special ordered to match just about anything!
