Compact fluorescent...shocking uvi’s

Going through my junk box of old stuff and found a well used spiral fluorescent...thought I’d look at the uvi for fun. Couldn’t believe the results. I was at uvi 3 at 8”. This seems strange since I thought these were supposed to be terrible. At 10”, I was at 2. ???? I’ll try it through screen.

I can’t take pics because I need a third hand to work my phone. Gotta wait ‘till wifey gets home. But it’s not nearly as bad as I thought. I actually don’t think I should broadcast these results. I don’t think you could effectively use such a bulb without a solar meter 6.5, and careful branch placement, and I wouldn’t want to advocate for them.

Where can I find these bulbs I've got to have them lol.. jk great work please do post the results and if necessary a disclaimer.

often read what they want to read, not what is actually written
Exactly, and there is nothing you can do about it. They will find a way to be retarded no matter what you write...

A reading in the 50s is an ungodly high amount, are you sure its calibrated? Or test it on other lights for comparison?

Well this is awkward lol. I feel a controversy brewing.........KIDDING! Interesting observation though. Please do keep us posted on your results.

It’s the one I use for all my t5s, so I hope so. It gives me the results I would expect under my t5s—at least roughly the same results others are getting.

So the theory of the chameleon kit is actually starting to make some sense to me. As long as you place your only vine directly below the compact uvb light and don’t block it with your one little plastic plant, Zoo Med deems this adequate uvb and thereby relinquishes all responsibility for the multitude of chameleons who will develop mbd.

I know you’re joking, but I do wonder whether two cfls in the dual dome could work for chameleons under 5” snout to vent. Again, I do not endorse this. And practically speaking, if you were going to do this, you’d need a solar meter for safety’s sake, and if you spend $300 bucks on a solar meter, my guess is you’re not using the chameleon kit. Like using a $1000 camera to take pics of your butt.

Don't judge how I take photos of my rear-end...... It needs HD and a wide-angled lense!

There are few things that make me more livid than seeing an actual set up like that with the implied notion that it is sufficient unto itself for a live animal. The things they'll say and do to make a buck is disheartening. I would lose my poop if I saw a cham in something like that. Yes, in theory it would provide enough UVB but those benefits are immediately negated by the low to absent quality of life that set up lends itself to.
