Is it normal for them to not flare up? He puffs up but barely darkens most I've seen is the white stripes well turn black

He looks nice and healthy. Sometimes, they turn brighter instead of darker when stressed.

He don't get bright either pretty much stays the same color all the time every now and then when basking he shows his bars slightly but not much

He'll either be green, very green, not so green. If you want a colorful chameleon you probably will want a panther.

Not true ryu all the male veiled chameleons I've seen have bright bars I'm just wondering if he's younger then what I was told or if I was told wrong that he'll start getting colors at 8 months when I was told he was 8 months when I got him close to 2 months ago

I wouldn't suggest doing this often do to stress, but if you want to see him fired up let him see himself in the mirror. :D

that is if he is a he the casque looks small, and I can't see a spur on the back leg.

Hey Timmin89,
I think you have a young Cham yet. It looks like 5 months to me. The wild colors come with age. He'll be popin soon , be patient. Veilds are awesome. Maybe you have a female? Does he have spurs on his back legs. Can you post any pics of that area?

I've tried the mirror and he just tries climbing onto it

LOL. That's funny I've never had a male not go all territorial when seeing himself in the mirror.

I looked at your other post on the sex of the cham, and I must confess myself bewildered. If that is a spur which "I'm not saying it isn't", it would have to be the smallest on I have ever seen on a cham of this size. It looks like from the pic it could be just a coloration in the skin. I really can't be sure, but if I were a betting man I would place my money on female. But then I never was any good at gambling that's why I don't bet. :D
