Coccidia & Pinworms Treatment ?

Took Jasper to the vet for a fecal and it turns out he has Coccidia & Pinworms

He's currently on two meds, Ponazuril and Panacure.

My question is, What do i do about cleaning his cage? And where do i put him while i'm cleaning the cage? Do i free range w/ a basking light?


I plan on doing a deep clean to his current set up. Anyone know where i can find 40% peroxide?

I don't have a large enough tub or anything to soak his cage in with the peroxide...But i can put it in a spray bottle and spray it down if that would work. I know i have to water it down to about 10% or something, and to also wear gloves, goggles, respirator, and the whole 9.

I also plan on boiling some water then soaking his jungle vines in them. How long do i go about that? Also will the rubber melt off?

Another thing i want to do is replace his pothos plant and ficus. Might go with a umbrella plant and another hanging pothos. I'll be putting soap water into a spray bottle to spray down the plants, then i'll hose em off and resoil them with organic soil.

I also have river rocks that i used in my ficus tree that covered up the soil. Should i boil those? He's pooped a few times on them, I just don't want to carry those parasites over to ANYTHING.



Once Jasper gets over these parasites, he'll have a brand new adult enclosure w/ a arcadia light/grow light, 2 mist king rain nozzles, extra foliage, and lots of live plants. Everything minus the live plants are just sitting on my desk. I can't wait to see him happy again, poor guy

do you need to know how to treat the worms, or just clean the cage?

if so, i sprayed the cage down with pure peroxide first, then clean water, then diluted peroxide, then clean water, letting it dry in between each time.

as for plants, diluted dish soap and water, spray down, then rinse off.

i wouldnt get new plants until he tests clean, as youll just have to keep cleaning them or replacing them.

i would boil the rocks in hot water yes.

what did you vet give you? medication wise.

i just used lots of sticks and few fake vines until he tested clean.

Glad your cham tests came out clean! Really hoping for that type of improvement for Jasper.

glad you got ponazuril, some vets like to give albon, and that can kill them.

3 times the first month.
3 times the second month.
2 times the third month.
2 times the fourth month.
1 time the fifth and sixth months.

(coccidia is extremely hard to get rid of.. i had to give my guy at least 6+ doses before he finally got clean.

Thanks for your schedule...Geeze, must of been a pain taking care of your little guy. 6 moths of treatment is a long time. Glad you stuck with it and he turned out like a champ Glad to know theres success stories.

Should i just upgrade him to his adult cage then?

It'll be a pain the the A** but i can deal with it. I have everything minus my mistking nozzles, those come in on Monday. And plants i'll pick them up at my local nursery.

yea I would just upgrade him.

it was a pain, especially because during this process ,he kept prolapsing. like daily.
so i got to molest him a regular basis now, and he totally hates me for it.

really? Wow, Jasper prolapse too...But it always went back in. But i did molest him allot with KY jelly...

Never in my life i'd think i'd have to rub KY on a chameleons vent.

But sounds good, guess i'll clean his cage he's in now and upgrade him today. Hand mist all week til monday.

yea Glacier's wouldnt go back in on its own. So I had to help it with the KY.

I think part of it was also due to the fact that his tail is too short, so I dont think there is enough room in his vent for the man junk to stay.

Keep us posted. and dont touch your other chams stuff until you wash your hands after handling him.. its easily transferrable through touch, and through the air..
so if possible move him away from any other lizzards you have.

To clear up some misinformation here, coccidia can not be contracted through airborne means. It is transferred by direct contact.

Jesus...Why did i have to have the shittiest luck with my first chameleon? He's def a 100% reptile shop rescue chameleon now lol.

I'll def keep everyone posted though. Hopefully he shows some type of improvment within the first month of treatment.

And he's the only reptile in the house, but i do have my girlfriends bunny in our room. Hopefully that doesn't effect her.
