Closing Eyes and Pale in Color

Thanks again man for getting back to me. Really really means alot. I just got off the phone with the vet and she said he's not going to starve to death or dehydrate by tomorrow, so he should be fine until then. I am just so completely stressed out. He's sleeping and doesn't even have his tail curled up probably because he's too weak.

I am not too sure about impaction issues, never really had any problems.

If I were you I would offer him soft bodied feeders? Does that make sense just in case? Make his next "go time" runny. Hornworms and silkworms tend to make stool very runny, especially hornworms.

I will get hornworms asap if impaction ends up being the issue.

Is your room completely dedicated to your chameleons and feeders? You will need to get a fan to circulate air, without a doubt get a fan in there bro.

Sorry about not phrasing this right, but there has not been a fan on today, but there is a fan on that runs a few times a week. I will get a dedicated fan that constantly runs.

How often do you spot clean the bottom of his cage? Do you use the 10 % bleach solution... or just water or some other method of cleaning the floor of his cage?

I usually clean the cage anytime I see poop or there is excess water in the bottom. I have not used the 10% bleach solution, just wiped it clean with papertowels.

Just a note for the future, definitely gutload with more foods. Look at chameleonsonly.com's cricket food recipe, that list is legit man.

I will definitely do this. Starting tomorrow.

I REEEAAALLLY hope Ziggy isn't going down hill man, he is the next Slash!

Oh man, I love him so much. I just hope things work out here.

edit: How are all your other animals doing? I'm asking this because maybe it's the feeders... Are your crickets kept clean? Crickets are disgusting compared to roaches, and crickets need a whole lot more attention.

The crickets are kept very clean, and all the other chams are in tip top shape.

Why are you only using calcium with D3 once every 2 weeks if he is being raised indoors? He is only 6-7 months old, that is still young.

What would you recommend on this. I use calcium by itself all the time and have heard to do D3 twice a month.

Thanks again man.

I would see how he acts tomorrow. Due to his size I would be feeding daily. Over supplementation could be an issue here. Cut the reptivite to once monthly.

ok, I sure will. Thank you Julirs. :)

Have anyone ever had something similar happen and see them pull through alright?

In all honesty, most, if not all the members on here do not agree with using calcium with D3 as often as I use it.

I do what Screameleons recommends, and my chameleons are doing great. I've never had a chameleon arrive as strong as screameleon's chameleons, and no I am not advertising screameleons, I am just expressing what I have experienced. :)

I use calcium with D3 every other day for small chameleons, up to the age of 12 months old. Then I use it twice a week.

I dust EXTREMELY LIGHTLY. I mean, a light grey tint. You see a feeder with the slightest white spec, in my opinion, that is over coating.

edit: repcal calcium with D3 is what I use, and I also use rep cal herptivite, once every two weeks for all ages.

^^Thanks Brian. It seems everyone on here has somewhat of a different supplementation schedule. All the chams I've gotten from Screameleons have been extremely healthy, as well.

Though I'm no vet, I don't think it could be supplementation because the rest of the crew is doing great. Unless, he has some problem with taking them. I just don't know. I hate feeling like I'm powerless to do anything.

I do know whatever this is, I've caught it as early as I could. He looks extremely healthy except for the paleness in color. He does look a little bloated. Maybe that means something. I just don't know and I really really hope I wake up and he's feeling 100% better.

Brian and a few other members stick a schedule that includes regular absorption of d3 into the diet weekly - which I think if done properly can be great.

Most of us usually give it two a month in somewhat large amounts, meaning that for a week the chameleon has no d3, then for a week it has a lot, then little, then a lot. Overall I think it would be better to Lightly Dust as Brian says, however ever I am very cautious to change things regarding chameleons and supplementation.

Back on topic,

I don't think your going to lose him over night, and I personally the "going downhill fast" statement usually means about a week. I highly doubt any animal is so susceptible that it can die in 24 hours without proper conditions. CHameleons however are delicate, and should be regarded as such.

Thanks Spiny. I'm hoping I'm at the very beginning of that week, and can turn this right around. I've been spending hours reading through the forums and just can't seem to find similar circumstances. I'm just going to stay up reading...

Hey Jann, thank you for asking. His lights went on, and he's darker in color. I'm taking this as a good thing since he was so pale all yesterday. He seemed to be closing one eye just a second ago. The lights just came on so I'm going to give him a little bit and then mist him.

So far the only things I can think of from reading and how he's acting is either an impaction, a kidney problem, or some sort of parasite.

Is there anything you all have suggestions about that will help me with the vet? I know we will be getting an xray, but I also know that this is a very small window for survival. I really don't want either of us to overlook anything.

Got a vet appointment at 11:30

Alright, about to take off to the vet. He just drank some water off the screen, so this is good.

I wanted to ask you all if any of you had ever mixed the pedialyte with the misting water? Just curious if anyone had done this, as I know he would drink it instead of having to be forced? Thanks for all the help everyone. I'm really hoping he's going to pull through here.

Kevin, have you seen him eatting any dirt out of his plants? I know your thinking impaction but if you dont feed mealworms or supers and he's not eatting dirt I dont think thats the prob.

How heavily are you dusting your feeders? That could be the isssue if your dusting them too heavily. Good luck at the vets man.

I would think it would make things sticky and attract ants.

Alright, back from the vet. Well, thank god he decided to take a watery little bit of poo on our vet. It was such a tiny bit, but we ran a fecal on it. It turns out he has pinworms. I got to see the slides myself. There was also blood in the stool. Luckily, my vet felt him pretty good and said there was no sign impaction. In fact, he didn't have much in him at all. We gave him some panacur and I am to force feed him and give him mistings and pedialyte. We're not out of this yet, as he looked and acted the most active since this happened at the vet, but still looks pale and not as active.

I sincerely want to thank everyone for all the input. I'll fill any updates with what happens next.

Hoping the best for you! Don't mist with Pedialyte-you will make a sticky bug attracting mess!

Thank you so much Drea and Julirs. Yeah, I didn't think about that. I made sure to get some syringes from the vet to administer the pedialyte and possibly the food..

She also had me bump his temps up a little bit to help digestion.

Kevin you're a good keeper! Make sure when using the Panacur as well as any meds keep the cham very hydrated.

Thank you for that, too Drea. :) Makes me feel better. They gave it to him at the vet on an empty stomach, so I just misted him and force fed two crickets. I'm going to be monitoring him very closely.

Damn, I didn't sleep at all last night and was reading the forum until almost 4 am. I just hope he gets through. He's a tough guy though, the most active of all our panthers.

Now, we'll be sending lots of fecals!
