Climate change=new lessons learned

So being somewhat new to keeping chams, new higher temps in the area equals brain burps for me
I am very anti AC and that being said, I figured all the better for my lil' Kai. Temps in the house were good and I adjusted the basking bulb accordingly, RH was the best its been with little effort on my part. What could be the problem with my guy then..? He was all the sudden wearing his "Goth" clothing and just not being his feisty self. I scrambled and pondered all day to make adjustments (probably inducing more stress than necessary). Then while laying in bed hubby complaining how hot it was,….it hit me! Night temps!!!! So I jumped up out of bed, closed all the windows and flipped the AC switch. The next day Kai was bright, moving around and back to normal :D
Is this plausible? Did I actually figure it out? Poor guy had night temps at 84-78F for a full cycle! I felt like such a jerk for not realizing that during that day but glad he only had to endure the one night uncomfy.

Yes, probably, and you saw the results pretty fast. Arboreal chams would naturally experience cooler temps in their trees at night, so have adapted to this shift. Their metabolism wants that cool down to rest. Just be aware that running your AC will dry out the air more, so keep track of the cage humidity the following morning and mist more if necessary.

I know and thats exactly why I avoid the AC ;) I was still able to control proper RH since his cage is set up for handling our dry/cold winters. LOL its just funny how the Cham controls the place :D Hubby says its too hot and sticky so turn on the AC and I say "nope, Kai needs the natural heat and humidity for a change." They rule us!

They rule us!

Ahh, the epiphany of cham keeping. I've purchased houses based on what my creatures needed (window placement, big greatrooms for my aviary, type of heating, insulation, water treatment and filtration, insect colony cupboards, low VOC paints, etc). My parts of the house are mere add-ons.

You might consider outdoor housing during the summer months if possible. That is what I do here. If your house is anything like mine, it seems to continue to build heat long into the night, meanwhile, here things cool down outdoors at night.

True this! I never woke up before 11am unless i had class or work, now im awake by 8:30 to feed my 9 month old lol and my room gets so damn hot during the day i cant stand to stay in it, and i only turn my fan on at night if his temps are too high
