Cleaning discoid box

Those of you who raise discoid roaches, how do you clean out the frass without scooping up babies? I tried to clean and dumped frass in a cup and found babies running around in the cup.

there must be a good way of doing this. They can't live in the poop forever.

Shake the frass and babies to one side of the tub. Leave a piece of egg carton on the other side and collect them every once in a while. You wont be able to get all of them, but you should get most of them that way.

How many you get depends on how long you are willing to wait and the size of your colony. I don't expect to "save" all of them. The most active (and hopefully the most healthy) roaches will get out of the frass onto the cartons or chunks of food sooner. When I am finished filtering the live ones out of the frass I pour it all into a trashbag, chill it in the fridge or outdoors (in winter!), then freeze it thoroughly before disposing.
