Chat Feature: IRC?

I used to use IRC on gamesurge.net for gaming. It would be awesome to be able to chat with everyone on there.

Just noticed this. I used to use IRC every day but haven't for a while, partially as i've had computer issues and ended up getting a new computer. Just downloaded mIRC again and will start going on there.

How about a shoutbox on the front page?
Better than IRC for this sort of application as you don't need to learn anything new (IRC can be a bit confusing for first timers).

There is a link on the main page on the left hand side for live chat. Its a java based chat client so, you really don't need any IRC skills.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I have no interest in adding a shoutbox to the home page. In my opinion, they are great for many types of community websites. However, when the subject is the care and husbandry of animals I think a shoutbox could be counter productive.

The chatroom could probably use more exposure. It is actually based on flash, not java.
