Chams are deaf?? O.o

My girlfriends cham always gets a happy bright color and seems to come closer to her when she plays the guitar? So just finding this out really confuses me! hahah

I've heard they can't hear at all, and I've heard that they hear vibrations. I've been really interested lately about it.

They do not hear as we do. You could yell at one and it wouldnt really detect it. They have the inner ear bits though. They can pick up vibrations with it. So they wont react to say a vacume cleaner. But somthing like a guitar that puts out vibrations they may yes. Ive heard speculation of them communicating through vibrating there branches and whatnot. I havnt seen research on this though.

Well they are not deaf persay, they have all the inner workings of an ear. Sounds are essentially vibrations that "wiggle" the little hairs in your ear, then send electrical impulses to your brain. So to say they are deaf is not completely true.

Either that, or I get the head bobbing just right. The telepathy will probably work out sooner as I believe my chameleons deem me unworthy of any willing communication.

From what I've read, they have all the inner workings of "ears" but it's covered by skin (and scales) so their hearing is muted.

I can just picture it.

Stella: Donahue, you know the food slave is moving its mouth at us, and bobbing its head up and down. I dare say its trying to communicate with us.

Donahue: Communicate? With us?

Stella: Yes I suppose so.

Donahue: Why would it?

Stella: I cant be sure. Its quite intriguing.

Donahue: Well don't encourage it, a filthy animal like that? I mean, it feeds using its hands! Just ignore it. It goes away faster.

Stella: I suppose your right.

Donahue: Of course Im right...

Lol, this is why we need that discussion group you mentioned, maybe with the chams help quantum physics will make telepathy possible..........

Hahaah!
THis is hilarious.
ANd i love how Donahue and Stella are very proper with their language.

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND

Hearing

Chameleons have the poorest hearing except one species of lacenta from Persia. Shouting next to the chameleon would not arouse him even when he is awake, he disregards most sounds. They only respond to ground or branch borne sounds. How sound is transmitted into the chameleon's ear In the opening of the chameleon's ear, a membrane on the side of the skull called the auditory area registers airborne vibrations and transmits them to a delicate bone structure. Embedded in tissues within the skull, the plate relays the vibration down a twisting and constricted pathway leading to the inner ear.

Chameleons have very limited hearing, tuning in to frequencies between 200 and 600 Hz as compared to most other lizards from 100 to 4000 Hz, and to humans 20 to 20,000 Hz. Chameleons cannot hear danger or food approaching.
