Chameleons in mexico?!?

So my cousins grampa on his dads side loves to see and hold my chameleons when ever he comes over and he keeps telling me that there's Certain kind of chameleon in mexico in the (sierra)"sorry don't know how to say that word in spanish...but is it true?and if so what tipe chameleon is it?imm just so curious ...any one know???

I'm afraid that your cousins granpa is mistaken there are no chameleons native to Mexico,in the sierras or anywhere else.

I got a friend from nicaragua that call iguanas for chameleons, when one time he really saw a chameleon he didn´t recognised it, people tend to name things their own way, atleast that is what I experience in peru.

btw it isn´t good for you cham to be picked up, you probably already know but they are easily stressed

There are types of lizards that are called false chameleons, but they are anoles I think. So it's common for people in the Americas to think that chameleons are running around everywhere but they are exclusively Old World animals.

The only exceptions are the populations of escaped chameleons that have set up shop in a couple areas of the US, but they are not native.

My father believed he had "a bunch of chameleons" living together when he was younger, when realistically they were likely anoles since he "caught them in the wild". Dumb a** thought chameleons lived in the wild in CANADA. He's so stubborn though that he still believes it, no matter how hard I try to convince him. He's a typical old man that still doesn't know how to use a computer, let alone read a book.

You're not the only one! Someone was telling my husband that they had a bunch while living in Mexico. So he showed him a picture and it wasn't a chameleon at all.

Anoles are often called American chameleons although they are not related and having been to Mexico a few times there are defiantly loads there.
