I held mine today when I put him in a plant to scratch up against the plant he didn't mind it because he is pretty tame he doesn't show any warning colours or puff up his chin
Chams need to shed naturally so let him rub against his habitat and when you pick him up be sure not to pull the skin off. You'll see there will be lots of skin everywhere, and thats cool, but make sure to keep the cage clean after shedding.
