Chameleon prolapsed cloaca?

Hello, I have a 7 month old panther chameleon who has seemed fairly healthy with little issue. Today I saw a red organ looking thing sticking out from the hole under his tail (cloaca?). Is this a prolapsed cloaca? It went back inside and he seems ok but what do I do? He's never had that happen before and has a fairly regular diet and doesn't to my knowledge overeat.

Hi there, welcome to the forum. If it went back in it was probably be his hemipenis. He has two and may flash them both. Quite normal as long as they go back. misslilly has a fabulous pic of this. I hope someone can find the link for you.:)

Thanks for the welcome. After researching my butt off for the last hour and contacting a herp vet I trust, I'm absolutely sure that this was just a protrusion of the hemipenes and it didn't prolapse, my panther is fine.

A prolapse would be when it doesn't to back in.
It's normAforit to come out, on occasion.

When it stays out for more than a few seconds and won't go back in is when you have a problem.
