Found top of screen cage broken in and my female panther has a chunk of skin about 1/2 inch by 3/8 inch missing, on her side, i can see two ribs, black all around it. She seems to be alert. Light scratch marks above it, looks like one cat paw swipe. Anything I can do till vet tomorow?

That's terrible! I'm not sure of what can be done right now, but good luck! Sorry to hear of this unfortunate attack.

That does NOT sound good for the poor Cham!!!!!!!! Please get it to the vet ASAP!!!!!!!!

This is your ONLY option. Wound cleaning and a full series of antibiotics will absolutely be necessary, and only appropriate through veterinary advising.
I would just leave her completely alone and out of site of anyone or anything until vet attention can be given.

Here is the pic

clean it...

My first thought would be clean it and put triple antibiotic on it. Cat bite are nasty. But get her to a vet ASAP.... good luck

I agree, clean it asap, and cover it with the triple antibiotic. Then if you want your cham to have a chance get to the vet really, really fast. And please let us know what the vet says. If the vet can't see you first thing walk in and sit there, you will be seen when they see your cham.

All you can do is wait until tomorrow morning. Try not to touch, move, or make the chameleon nervous. He's wounded and is very stressed or in pain right now. I would research any ointment your going to put on him before you do, because it could give him a reaction. Just try to keep him calm and try not to move him to much. Moving him may hurt him more. Just rush him first thing in the morning to the vet! I hope he makes it. I'll pray for him. Keep your chin up though. Not your fault. Please let us know the results.

Just in case it is a bite. Cats have a nasty mouth full of infection causing bacteria..Id personally take some providone iodine and bottled water. Mix the two to making the solution look like a rich tea and would make enough to dip the rear of the chameleon to the wound in. See pic. Id soak for 15 minutes. Im sure the chameleon will not like this but will be just fine. After this i would rinse the wound with a fresh bottled water and then apply a very thin coat of polysporin with a rubber glove on or apply with something that is sterile.

This will be an attempt to help flush out any debris and will deep clean the wound.

As others have said, try and keep her wound clean. As long as it doesn't hurt or make her injury worse try some ointment maybe. Get her to a vet as soon as you possibly can. I hope everything will be alright :(

The biggest issue with this is that as others have said, if it is a bite cat mouths are full of bacteria. If you are unable to get it fully cleaned, and you use neosporin or the like, you run risk of trapping bacteria and making things worse.

Its not a bite, you can see where the scratch marks are, one good cat scratch. Can they stitch reptile skin? or does anyone know if it will grow back. I also took her out and put here in a critter carrier for the night in the house, I keep them outdoors in the summer, my gf should be on her way to vet right now.

Also I cut a piece of steel shelving to fit across the top of the cage, so there is no way the cat can get back in.

Yes they can stitch reptile skin but it takes a long time to heal.:)

Yeah his place is about 15 minutes and I usually go there, but he is closed on Wednesdays!!

Okay vet is going to stitch up the cut and continue antibiotics, otherwise just have to wait and see.

Good to hear

I wasn't sure if they could stitch it or not. I worked in regular ER and after so long stitches are done.

Got her back. Broken ribs, punctured lung and stiches. However she is still very active, hunted down two worms and cricket right away, so can only wait and see.
