I'm open to the idea if an appropriate term can be found. We had a hard time coming up with the current titles.

Titles have to be relatively short.
We want to avoid words like Senior that have a connotation with age.
We also want to avoid terms that imply a higher level of knowledge.

Thank you Brad! It just doesn’t seem right that someone that’s been here less than a year have the same title as the active members that have been here for 10+ years.

The biggest question is, what defines the term Chameleon Enthusiast?
For me as newbie it doesn’t directly define it as a specialist or veteran, in other words I don’t directly link it with experience. Speaking of a suiting term, I would suggest Chameleon Veteran as the next stage and a veteran doesn’t refer to age, only to experience. And I agree with your feelings @jannb

Personally, I wouldn't consider myself as a chameleon enthusiast. I have learned so much from this forum and I am so very grateful. I do know all of the aspects of correct husbandry for veiled's and panthers. But there is still so much more to know. I am learning every day. I know enough to help in the areas I can.

And that’s exactly my perception of the term enthusiast. Therefore one level higher, wouldn’t be so bad, for the ones with the long term knowledge.

There definitely was a point where CE title was a tough title to get here. There was like 5-10? Members with it. It took me a pretty long time to get mine. The reactions I think changed it? I don't have any problem with that other than I think there is a huge gap between different people with the title. It's not an impressive feat of commitment to these forums like it used to be.

BTW I hope no one takes that the wrong way, I'm not trying to be condescending or anything like that. It doesn't matter all that much to me other than I like to have a little bit of an idea how experienced someone is through their title.

No more than someone who joined 10+ years ago, dropped out after a few questions, then returns after a looong hiatus. I recall recently seeing a member of 13 years (IIRC) who was still a "new member".

I think the root question is what do—or should—the levels represent?

One term higher could be veteran member.

No more than someone who joined 10+ years ago, dropped out after a few questions, then returns after a looong hiatus. I recall recently seeing a member of 13 years (IIRC) who was still a "new member".

I think the root question is what do—or should—the levels represent?

That would be Chase that posted above. He joined in 2007 so he would be veteran or whatever. He helped here for many years and took a break and now back. When the forums had a major update years ago the new grading system went in and that’s when members went back to new. With the old system it took many years of hard work to get to the top. With this system, less that a year it seems.

I agree, that is why I look at when they joined to get a better idea of how much experience they have.

I have seen new members with good experience before Not every new member is new to the hobby. Just to this forum

No, it was someone else. Chase is ranked as "avid", and whoever it was was definitely "new". IIRC, this was in the past week.

If it were up to me, I'd throw the whole system out/disable it. To me it's as silly as all the likes, followers, friends, and the other high school ego-stroking stuff. IME (from the days of Usenet & before), people who want to help or have something to say are going to do it regardless.

I feel like the latter half of this post dates you. Also I get the feeling I'm not the only one who is less active on social media platforms. I've even found out recently my definition of what a friend is, is different than most who are active on social media.

That's no secret! I'm retired, never had a social media account (not even YouTube) and never owned a cell phone, much less a smart phone.

I may be a dinosaur, but I keep a few of them, so it works for me.

Normally, or it use to depend on forum participation.

The old ranking system was nice, but would be difficult (maybe impossible?) with how the site is now laid out. When you gave someone rep for their post, they got more points depending on how much rep you had. You knew you posted something good when someone with high rep gave you the old version of a like. Faunaclassifieds still uses the rep system that this site used to have

I can't remember TBH. When I joined I was a kid and would come on here just to read what people had to say. In fact, it was years after before I first posted I believe.
