Chameleon dark while basking

why is my chameleon dark while. Basking he had done it ever since ive got him and soon as he leaves his spot he changes to a light green.

Basking stop temp is 85-87

Dark colors absorb more heat, so he's being an efficient little basker...
This is normal behavior for chameleons.

Or notice the "light arm shadow" when they finally move.

the light arm shadows are my favorite because it looks like they got a patchy tan and then i imagine chameleon rednecks
