They look like a mix of jackson and veiled. The male more so than the female. He also has great yellow and HUGE front digits (like mini forkloaders). Keep us posted, I am fascinated with these. Finally, something different. Good luck.

I believe you posted about a female also. Is breeding a possibility for you? I have basic knowledge of Uganda, so bare with me. It is possible to keep them outdoors year round, correct. If so, please consider that breeding project. That knowledge would go a long way for future CB programs. Like I said, and I may be wrong as it happens ALOT, I just haven't seen or heard much on them. If so, I am sure Trace and Chris Anderson (forgive me for putting you'll on the spot) would offer any help. Truly fascinating chameleons. Time to fire up the old google engine, I guess. :D

I only have this male. Female is a must find. I just need to wait for my Ugandan friend to get time and look for them :) I live in an apartment and dont have backyard or something like that,i can only keep them indoors. Climate here is awesome, between 26 and 28 celsius every day. Even during rainy season. If i find female i will try to breed them for sure.

If you do, please keep us posted. I am going to have to do a LOT of research on these guys this weekend. Curious....

I will keep you posted ;)
I saw this morning that he was unusually active, he was running all over the cage, then i realized he will start shedding. Now he finished with that and got his lunch. He also got a nice colors on his neck. From mouth to tail(bottom side) he have one white line, side of his troat is green and yellow with three blue lines. I cannot get that on picture, its looking really really beautiful.

The female in your first post is gravid and NOT happy whatsoever.

Yay for new skin! He looks really good. Curious, does he have the pigmented throat grooves (gular grooves) at all? They are a black spot in the folds of his throat on either side. They aren’t present in all populations but the Ugandan ones usually do.

I happen to have visited the Reptiles Village in Uganda and took a few pics. I hope you don't mind. I know I sure don't want to take that drive again!!!

A male Ellioti and some images of the caging system. No water provided by staff, bugs caught locally and thrown in.

BTW did they still have the naturally occuring WC hybrid between Bitis Gabonia and Nasicornis? I was there when it was brought in and it was crazy aggressive!

Cheers,

T

I cannot get over his yellows. Yellow being my favorite color and all. Simply a unique chameleon. Did you name him? I have been trying to think of a name with Uganda in it. 'Uganda Wanda' or 'Wanda from Uganda' would work for a female. :)

Tokoloshe-
I was there 2 months ago. That hybrid was there, but it wasnt moving at all. All of their animals were somehow lethargic. Except of the cobras. About the chameleons, that girl there told me that they catch fish in that lake and that they put it on some rope and in to the cage. Than flies start coming on the fish and chameleons hunt. Problem here is that you dont have options. They dont have insect food like you can get anywhere else, they dont have equipment, nothing, you need to improvise. Also me, uvb and insects are hard to find. But i have allot of grasshoppers on the field just across my apartment, and also i have some bugs similar to B.lateralis in my apartment. :) So i will try to catch many of those and try to start a colony. Uvb i ordered via Aliexpres,it will cost me almost 100$,two bulbs reptiglo 10.0. But i need to provide that for my pet and i dont mind spending :)

Trace-
I am not sure what you meant about his throat(english is not my native language). From the cheeks down he is green, bottom of his throat has yellow line on those pointy things, in the middle he has some blue lines. I hope this helps :)

Junglefries-
I still didnt name him, but my colleagues wife whats to name him Miroslav:) That is some Serbian hillbilly name :)

Here is picture i took yesterday when he was shedding.
Those three white lines on his throat are actually blue, but i cannot get it on the picture :(

The Bitis Gabonica/Nasicornis was biting at every person who walked by and hissing when you were 10 yards away when I was there.

So they said they put fish in the cage to attract flies? I forgot that they have "birdbath" like water receptacles in the cage for "drinking!"

Why are you not simply keeping him outside in a outdoor enclosure? That is their natural habitat and he will do very well outdoors! There are loads of Ellioti in entebbe ESP near the wildlife center. Finding a girlfriend should be very easy!

They reportedly had some hoehnelli and johnstoni a while back but they did not survive(I am not surprised, as the conditions were suboptimal to say the least!)

Cheers,

T

Like I allready said, I live in an apartment and I dont have back yard. Only indoors is possible for now.

I know it is easy when you have time to go and look for them, but my work is complex and I always need to be on stand by :)

But my friend asked some friends that work near those bushy areas(around Kampala) to look for them. I told him to bring few, then I will post pictures and you will tell me which ones are females, but I think I could tell the difference, just want to be sure :) Rest of them are going back to the wild :)

Good initiative on the caging but bad execution.

So, today I got more time than usual and spent half of the day with my cham on balcony. He was enjoying that. He was all bright and he was allmost all of the time on sunny side. Only danger here is to leave him alone there, because there are many birds here. As soon as something flies by he immediately turns dark. One crow was 15ft from him and he saw it before i did. He turned his head and was looking in birds direction. He started showing some nice yellow color on his legs and throat :) sorry, no pics from today
